... whatever the result tonight, yes or no. After the horrendous time we've lived through, with quiet streets and empty stadiums, would it hurt to honour those two local lads ... ... would there be accusations of 'small time' or should we be rightly proud. In my opinion Sunderland, and the surrounding area, shouldn't miss the opportunity after 55 years since the last major final ... ... it doesn't need to centre on the club, it should be about the people of the area and two of them who've risen to the top.
Definitely if we win not sure if we lose. We win it should be set in stone. If we lose what other events would people be calling for the same type of thing. Where would it then stop. Great shout though and I would like to think some councillor gets wind of this and gets it proposed.
This is why it needs discussing now tbh. If social media and forums are obviously in favour the city should get something organised just in case ... ... it doesn't need much doing, stick them on an open topped bus and the people will do the rest.
Anything to build the city up will do for me ....the Council chief , however, will have a different take on it.
I don't think it's appropriate if we lose personally. Lovely touch if we win, but it just feels a bit desperate to me to celebrate coming second in such a manner.
I've no idea about Newcastle, in the 1950's, but Sunderland in 1973 was a great event ... ... when the bus came down the A690 you could feel the pride.
If we win we should certainly do it. As new City Hall not ready yet would need to be at the SOL or better still the AOL as thats the facility which produced them. Could invite all regions MP's, see which ones actually turn up Seriously though we should be rightly proud and they should be honoured with freedom of the city if thats the highest honor we can bestoe.
they can be given the freedom when the new Civic centre opens, i reckon about Sept. to see Sunderland win at Wembley then England in the same year would be fantastic !. The 2 Jordans can come back in the future and help us win the F A cup again. It is up to Kryil and his team.
No. Would Italy have had a big celebration if they'd lost? Of course not, they'd be there to throw **** at the team. And that's why they win things.
That's fair enough mate, although the idea wasn't a big celebration for the whole team, even if they'd won, just a civic reception for the two local lads ... ... I don't think Pickford and Henderson would want anything in these circumstances. If they'd won the Euros it could've been wonderful.
