Was struck by something Gary Neville wrote this morning he said and I am paraphrasing here: “Southgate has been helped by having really good players and having those goes down to many of them working with the likes of Guardiola Tuchel and others. Those top class managers would not be here if it was not for the Premier League riches. And I hate to say it but we owe that to Rupert Murdoch and his crew at Skysports Full disclosure I am a diehard liberal and I am aghast at the at what the same crew have achieved at Fox News- a cable news network that is happy to espouse conspiracy theories and in some cases downright lies. But credit were credit is due.

Exactly

There was contact, at speed, and he went down after the contact.

Rules say that is a penalty.

If anyone wants to change the rules to " you should be able to kick people quite hard, but not too hard", for example, then they should start lobbying for that. But even is successful we'd still be having arguments about what 'quite' and 'too' mean
Totally agree. And I’m not entirely sure anyone wants to go back to the days when vicious bastards like Tommy Smith and Norman Hunter dished out knee high reducers and got away with it. I go to a football match to watch football, not bone crunching violence.

Included in hugh McIlvanney's Chelsea leeds cup final replay,
“it appeared that Mr Jennings would give a free-kick only on production of a death certificate.

In those days, probably not a penalty, for a start he got back to his feet. Both feet, one of them had not been taken off at the ankle.

Yea, lets go back to those days, kick fook out of each other, sack off var, and instead of a penalty shoot out, bare knuckle last man standing.

Or we continue, being as cute as every other team. And no, I don't care how we win it, because it will probably be the same way we lose.

No middle ground?
