If only for denying us the spectacle of Ramos playing in the PL for any club
(God there would have been guaranteed some epic sh*tlord moments) .

What have I missed from him? couple of rabonas and some ****housery?

He was signed for big money in 2013 and has been a big letdown IMO.

I think if we’d paid about £15m back then for Lamela we’d likely say he’d been a good signing for us despite the horrendous injury record but £30m back when £30m was a load of dough for clubs, factoring in games played (and missed!), impact in matches along with stats, he hasn’t been that great - not terrible, but just not great. I think he’s more liked for his persona and ****housery (which is superb, can’t knock that) than the quality he’s actually brought to the club.

Would take a bullet for this badge though, which is more than can be said for some, so he’ll have my respect but he is indeed a player we need to move on.

I’ve seen much more. Perhaps we look for different attributes in players.

Honestly this one irks me, because not only would he have been a useful player to have given he can play through the middle or on the wing (and the way he dribbles reminds me of Dembele) but the fact that Palace have been very smart in signing both him and Eze...who we should have also considered making a move for

I think it was €30 mill when the pound would have got you a lot more Euros. He was badly misused by AVB, but had a spell when he among the first on the team sheet. A series of injuries and personal problems followed but he was a player who was able to lift the side at times when we were drifting. He never lacked effort. I liked him

Yeah I think the initial outlay was £26m but there were bonuses taking it to £30m I believe, not sure if those bonuses were met though or not.

I think attitude-wise there’s no faulting him, just like Lucas too, whenever these guys are out the side they’ll be ready to jump in even if for a few minutes, that sort of mentality and commitment is something I love, never complains either. As a player I think he’s been ok/ good for us, I expected more for what we paid but if you compare him to other big money signings like Soldado, Sissoko, Ndombele and Lo Celso, he’s given us so much more than those guys so I wouldn’t call him a flop or anything but equally I wouldn’t say he was completely worth the money we spent either.

All in all I’ll happily clap and applaud his name if he leaves and returns either as an opposition player or as a guest at half time.

I don't think anyone has a bad word to say about lamela in terms of his attitude and effort (at spurs anyway, he's a **** house player and opposition fans hate that for obvious reasons - see diego costa, robbie savage etc). He had his moments of pure class (two rabona goals) but he never really played enough or did enough on a field and thats before accounting that he was the big money buy and marquee signing.

If you were to be given a choice of buying him for 30m again i think most fans will give it the resounding no.

Part of the problem with the perception of Lamela is people keep repeating he was supposed to replace Gareth Bale and didn't, which is simply not true and never was - he was the replacement for Aaron Lennon, with Sonny replacing Bale the following season

If you look at Lamela in that context his Spurs career is very different, because overall Lamela has scored far more goals for us than Lennon did in a notably fewer number of games (37 in 255, compared to Lennon's 30 in 364), and has also been a useful utility player as he's been able to play through the middle when needed while Lennon was almost entirely a RW

£8m apparently. Absolute bargain. Him and Eze are the exact sort of signings we used to be so good at. Used to be.

Anyone else getting slightly fidgety that the season is barely a month away and apart from Foyth's departure becoming a formality we have seen zero movement in or out?

I don't buy the whole waiting until after the Euros crap. Villa, Brighton, United, Leicester, Liverpool and now Palace have all acted decisively, some on more than one transfer.

He had a release clause (which I may have mentioned five or six times since January...) which is another reason he was somebody we could have snapped up tidily as soon as the transfer window opened, or even triggered the clause towards the end of the season once Reading were confirmed as not going up

    A quick couple...

    - Aurier to Milan is doing the rounds once more, with Di Marzio nailing his name to that one (although given the amount of things he throws out on a daily basis, Blu-Tac is more likely)
    - Tomiyasu negotiations are ongoing, with the slight wrinkle that Tomiyasu is currently in Japan with the Japan team for the Olympics, meaning that if we signed him today it'll be at least a week before we can put together an unveiling video

So signing Tomiyasu early is completely pointless as he can't join until Japan are knocked out of the Olympics

Depends on whether he breaks a leg at the Olympics or not

I mean we do have a track record of players getting crocked in international games once we've signed them...

We'll have him, too. It's a position or two that we need to strengthen badly.
