3 bottlers? Rooney was never up to it at tournaments with the exception of his first euros as a 17 year kid. Which explains why despite being Englands all time record goal scorer he is not in the top 3 for goals scored at major tournaments. Every one of them lads deserve to be in the final more than the 3 mentioned as they had he professionalism to see it over the line. Kane is 10 times the playe in an England shirt Rooney ever was, obly ever doing it against lesser teams in the qualifiers but what against the big teams when it matters?
The whole thing could've been a big mess but it's turned out to be memorable and some real commitment from the players. I'm just going to relax and enjoy the final whatever happens. I just hope the likes of Roy Keane don't try to pin the blame on Pickford if we lose, some of the comments last night were very poor. Schmeichel was indecisive for the first goal, spooned the ball back into play a few times and should've held the penalty. Yet you'd think he was the better keeper last night if you listened to these clowns.
Has to be a clear an obvious error. There were 3 bits of contact on Sterling (none strong enough to fall over like) so whilst it felt a bit "soft" the defenders knew what they were doing. Penalty all day long for me
If Denmark had won with that the police would still be on the streets tbh. I know we all think the Italians cheat but I'm not sure we're any better. Grealish was brought on specifically to cheat which seems to be 80% of his game. I just hope, if the Italians win, with a similar penalty, we accept it for what it is.
Not sure I agree. Grealish was brought on to run at the Danes and draw fouls. I wouldn't call that cheating What Immobile did the other day is cheating Sterling going down after "feeling contact" is part of the modern game - like it or not, it's what happens now. No-one forced the referee to give the penalty - he could have left it to VAR to award. Similarly, no-one forced VAR officials to allow the penalty. If it was such blatant cheating, how come it wasn't overturned? Agree that we would feel aggrieved at a penalty given against us, but what were the Danes doing? Any sort of contact in that area means penalty - they should have just stood him up and let him run out of pitch
Interesting to read comments on a few papers... thank God we do not have to watch the final on ITV! One had 1200 likes As for Greslish did not stay on his wing left his fullback without cover generally ineffective... he is not Gazza Soft pen, laser did not stop keeper saving pen, 2nd ball on pitch did not effect game.
I would have said it was more than 80%. Don't see the fuss about Grealish at all. If he doesn't win a free a kick, he slows the game down. He never beats a player, only ever falls over under the slightest contact and if he can't draw someone in to make tackle (so he can pretend to have been tripped) he ends up passing the ball backwards. Most overrated player I can remember. Other than him, I think we've got a great squad!
It was a soft pen. And we’d be livid if it had been what lost us the game. But the one on Kane wasn’t and the free kick he gave Denmark for that one was even softer than the penalty he gave us. Technically game should be stopped for the second hall (rules” and all that rubbish). Interesting that it appears to have come from the Denmark fans (can’t see any other explanation) which means they’re trying to cheat to stop us scoring?
Definite pen for me, soft but he was taken out by 2 slight challenges. The Kane non penalty was a correct decision as the ref blew for Kane’s challenge on the defender a second before he was impeded. Their goal, we’ll it shouldn’t have been a free kick so they got lucky also. can I also say the two commentators last night were useless.
He wasnt taken out. He may have felt a slight touch (im not even convinced his leg was touched), and he dived. Just because there is contact, still doesnt mean its a penalty as far as I'm concerned. If thats a penalty then we might as well just all go home. Fortunately non of the camera angles, the ones we at home seen anyway, showed any conclusive proof. If the penalty had not been given and it went to VAR, it still wouldnt have been given.
You can't say there's contact and say it's not a foul, slight touch on his leg coming in from his right then the other player barged into his hip from his left, 2 contacts and he's entitled to go down. Every other team does it so I don't know why there's a big hoo ha when england do it
On another forum, lot's complaining about the commentary. I thought it was OK, I think people are getting at how culturally diverse and woke the channels have become and just labeling it all as **** commentary.
But its a contact sport. Just because you are touched it doesnt mean its a foul for me. I noticed a number of times Sterling outside the area, darting with the ball at his feet, got knocked and bumped, and still trying his hardest to stay on his feet, couldnt knock him over or get the ball off him. As soon as its in the penalty area hes down. Not convinced he was even touched on the leg by the first defender, the second defender may have bumped him, not sure, but he was already on his way down by then. But just because hes touched, doesnt mean he didnt dive. The majority of dives there is contact, but a dive is still a dive. Players like Sterling are always looking for that touch by the defender, always looking for a penalty as soon as they enter the box. Thats not a dig at his character, more a compliment to his trickery. I understand that any touch he receives he'll be already primed to go down. It looked a penalty in real time but once the penalty is given I'd have had no problem VAR overturning it. It is for these type of instances that VAR was brought in. But even after VAR opinion can still be divided. Basically, I have no problem Sterling going down, its wrong, but its the current climate, 30-40 years ago a player wouldnt have dived, but if they did the penalty probably wouldnt have been given. Today they do, and it's the norm for it to be given. Just feel, personally, it should have been overturned, but understand why it wasnt, it wasnt conclusive. I'm old school really, for a penalty to be given, you need to be chopped down or wiped out. Oh, the good old days!
If I was Danish I'd be moaning that we lost to an own goal and a dodgy penalty that their keeper was unlucky having saved the first shot.......but then again I'm not Danish
As I say he's entitled to go down, I've no problem with it. I'm more concerned how their goal was deemed a free kick
Iirc the Ref have a free kick out wide which was debatable leading to the non foul just outside the box for their goal. As has been said on here earlier please please if we lose on Sunday let it not be to a dodgy Ref, I'd like the Dutch Ref on Sunday but if he,was to give us a dodgy decision that won us the match then that's a different matter,... fans eh.
I'm hoping it's the German ref from the other semi final, he reffed our quarter final. He let the game flow and had a great game
