Grealish was poor. Fresher legs or not he gave the ball away and left his full back exposed more than once. He tried his “I win free kicks” trick and gave it away in a dangerous spot too! Phillips covers 15km tonight. More than any other player. No chance yo can take him off. Rice, whilst I don’t really rate him like most do, he does what he needs to for England! I honestly think he did the right thing.

I like Phillips there. Works hard as you say, puts his foot in and has confidence to burn. I think that's the key this time around, we've got a bit of a cocky/confident edge that we never normally do.

Credit to Southgate for that I suppose. We've had plenty of very talented teams in the past that have looked scared and lifeless but not this one.

aye fair enough...i honestly think phillips was doing great his first couple of games but has not done as much recently, lost the ball a few times in the first half, although he was not alone...kane tried for a few free kicks as well but he seems to get away with it as does sterling, grealish has not really 'set the place on fire' yet the fans seem to think of him as englands saviour or summit.

matterface is the one who only realised during this competition that if the ref gets in the way of the ball, the game has to restart with an uncontested drop ball...clueless for a supposed top commentator, give me 'our' guy mobray every time.

i think Grealish is a decent player. But he’s nowhere near the quality of Foden. Phillips is one of those who is like O’Nien . He never stops and seems to have energy every minute. Makes him imperative in a game in his position. It’s about what they need. Phillips will give us exactly what we need without being “stand out” as in he doesn’t do the fancy stuff. But he covers every blade. Exactly what you need from a CDM

it might not be Leeds vs Sunderland on Sunday but we have seen Sunderland win at wembley this year so the omen is there ! out mackem lads could do it !. I have to say Gerard, Rooney and Lampard should have been playing in that final for what they give.
