Not really impressed with Italy last night. Who ever wins tonight, should be good enough to overcome the Italians.
We were, after half time, comfortably the better team. In extra time, until Kane scored, I got the impression the Danes were playing for penalties. We had 20 shots on goal, Danes 6, which backs up my assessment. I But here is a message for the Italians to ponder on. ENGLAND HAVE NEVER LOST IN THE FINAL OF A MAJOR COMPETITION. Well it's true.
I kind of disagree, Rick. I thought England played very well, a big step-up on their group matches. I think Sterling dived, but everyone does nowadays, and perhaps that made up for the penalty that wasn't awarded in the second half of normal time. Kane got lucky with the penalty, but I think by then there was only going to be one winner and it was just a matter of time. Feel sorry for Schmeichel. Definitely one player who did not deserve to lose. Hats off to Southgate, who has done a wonderful job this tournament. He has managed both the tournament and individual games fantastically well. OK, so England were pretty turgid for most of the tournament, but that built up confidence and now the flair players are showing what they can do. Denmark were by far the toughest test, but Southgate seemed to realise that the way to beat them was on the ground, not in the air.
