Not a Norwich signing but Crystal Palace have just signed Michael Olise as Vieras first transfer. Decent player they’ve got there
Good question, but it may indicate our priorities for the coming season being focused on immediate impact on our PL survival. Rashica, Gunn and Gilmour all have top level experience and should be ready to go from the off. At 19, Olise is still developing as a player and the PL is a major step up for him. Palace can afford to wait for that development but we have to focus on the here and now of survival. Rashica can play as an AM as can Dowell, Cantwell and Rupp. If we signed Olise we'd then have to forego either Ajer at CB or Billing in CM/AM or any top level experienced alternatives in that price range. We need to focus on our immediate priorities.
Completely agree with this. If we spend more than £5m on a player, it really needs to be someone we think will be capable of making an immediate impact - that might be a 19 year old with loads of sell-on potential, but it’s more likely to be someone in their 20s.
We've gone and raided the Binners for one if their players after he turned down a new contract with them https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/spo...igning-of-talented-ipswich-midfielder-8122498 either he has seen the light and realised he was playing for a naff league 1 team so decided to turn them down and join a quality East Anglian team in the premier league or we have just got to pay a chaep compo fee of about £0.50p for him
I think we'll have to pay them compensation, even if he is moving for free, but that's based on potential to a large degree. Man City only paid us £250k for 15 year old Gunn, despite us arguing in the arbitration (accurately, as it turned out) that he had the potential to be a Premier League player.
Just seen on twitter Norwich City transfer target Kristoffer Ajer does not feature for Celtic against Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon (7th July). Would be great if the 2 clubs (City & Celtic) coud come to an agreement and the player signs for us. He is clearly unhappy there, as he wants to leave and he would be a fantastic signing for us.Would play him & Gibbo in the back 4 with Max & Dimi
Could be a sign that wheels are in motion on a transfer agreement. I'd play him on the right side of a back 3, as he can also play as a RB or DM. Let's hope it happens soon. Edit: Update on Ajer and Billing fro MFW: https://norwichcity.myfootballwriter.com/2021/07/07/norwich-prepare-12million-ajer-bid/ And another: https://insidefutbol.com/2021/07/07...castle-united-and-norwich-city-target/516951/ I've had a look at Newcastle's NewsNow and Leverkusen's as well and although many potential transfers are mentioned, there's nothing about interest in Ajer.
If we were to sign both Ajer and Billings it would increase the teams average height quite significantly as both are said to be 6'4" . The chance of goals from set pieces potentially improved immeasurably. How many headed goals from dead ball situations did we score last season?
Good point GE. It would also improve our ability to defend set pieces, especially if we played 3 CBs. Those two signings would greatly improve our chances of survival.
When you have two like them in the box for corners would surely make the defenders job so much harder.
From what I've seen of the Norwegian Celtic defender he likes to roam , he spends more time in the opposition half than defending
I thought that's the way it was likely to go. His injuries last season didn't help. Good luck to him and I hope it works out.
Forest apparently want to sign Hugill and I wonder how we'd respond if he does leave. It could be that DF sees Rashica as a possible back-up for Pukki given that he played 9 games as a striker for Werder Bremen last season. There's also Idah, of course, so that might enable us to bring in another attacking player as well as Ajer and Billing or similar alternatives. https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-nottingham-forest-line-up-move-for-norwich-star-hugill/ https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-jordan-hugill-nottingham-forest-interest-8128998
At the beginning of the window, I think the feeling Pinkun/The Athletic had was that the club weren't actively looking to sell Hugill, but if the right offer came in then they'd consider it. It's early enough in the window, but is £3m or so for Hugill going to be enough for us to upgrade?
Armstrong would probably be first choice as a replacement, given that he can play as a striker or WR, but we'd only have the money for that if either Aarons or Cantwell left. If that did happen though, we'd have one hell of an attack.
No interest in a bidding war for Ajer: https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwic...eltic-kristoffer-ajer-transfer-update-8129116 Sounds like the £12m bid rumour was wide of the mark, £10m is our limit. I think we might move on to Adarabioyo now.
I was a bit surprised at the reports of £12m for Ajer, given our budget. Celtic may hope that Leverkusen will go higher but there's nothing showing on their NewsNow titles. They tried this a year ago and Ajer agreed to stay, but he's clearly not willing to do that again. Interesting that Omobamidele will likely be staying as a fourth CB option. Edit: Apparently "Celtic are holding out for £15m": https://www.footballtransfertavern....oops-holding-out-for-15m-for-kristoffer-ajer/ Dream on.
