I suggest you go and look at the quality of the opposition they've had during that 'impressive' run. 2x Bosnia, Leichenstein, Armenia and Lithuania. And they haven't always beaten those teams, or kept a clean sheet. It's like a boxer fighting a bunch of street bums and then being declared title contender.
My team got selected to be ball boys for the 2002 World Cup qualifying game against Germany at Wembley. I wasn’t allowed to be one because I was too tall. Didn’t even get a ticket to the game. Keegans last game in charge I believe. It’s coming home
Ok, if that's the benchmark, who have England beaten? What's our record in the last 32 matches? Germany? Well, Italy just beat Spain. You can only beat what is front of you, Italy are in the final. It certainly isn't hype.
Gonna work so can avoid the endless blanket coverage. Gaffer as set up the TV at work and said we can down tools at game time . Crisps ,Variety pack of Border biscuits ( Scotland are good at some things ) @Aldo and Yorkshire tea. All good stuff
Yup, I just thought if I have to listen to the words England, Southgate and Kane all day it's going to drive me nuts. I'm as passionate about my country as anyone, but I don't need to hear it 24/7 The positives are it's been a lovely distraction from focusing on Covid, and people could do with something to cheer about. To see both Italy and England in the final, would be great after the sadness of the last 18 months both countries have experienced. Not suggesting it was any of the less for other countries btw.
lol bro, the only decent side we've beaten all tournament is Germany. The italians have beaten Spain and Belgium. I do think we have the stronger side though as i've told @Libby before purely because the PL is a stronger league than Italy and our players if you were to value them cost for cost would be worth more (theorectically better quality).
Can everyone stop talking about Italy please. These Danes look a bit of a tough nut to me. The Saxons always beat the Vikings in a straight fight back in the day though. Repeat that and then if we get through we can start worrying about the ****ing Romans....
Try being from one of the other home nations and having to put up with it! I'll be happy for you fans if you win it but the coverage is driving me mental.
I’d be delighted for you lot if it was all daffodils and dragons and Gareth Bale everywhere I turned. Could only take so much Tom Jones though. Is he still alive?
It's a nice narrative to beat England with but it's just not really true though is it. We controlled the game against Croatia and could have won by more if needed - Croatia went on to almost knock Spain out (the team Italy only scraped past on penalties last night). We controlled the game against Czech Republic and could have won it by more if needed (the team who knocked a fancied Holland team out). We bossed Germany in that second half despite missing some key players ourselves and we destroyed Ukraine. Scotland was a terrible performance, no denying it. Because it's England people wont be rational at all, they will either underplay getting to the semi's and talk about an easy draw and luck or overplay it and suddenly we're the best team in the world. As I've mentioned before we've had a harder run to the finals than either team in 2016. In the main the teams I was worried about going in to the tournament have looked poor and certainly beatable (Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, etc). Italy and England have looked by far the best two teams in the tournament, I suspect if you look at any foreign media they'll be saying exactly that. 100% Denmark to win now of course.
I can handle it if we lose tonight, Denmark are under-rated. 10th best in the world (they'll be higher after this) and something like 7th in Europe so it's not like they're a total outsider for the competition. We should be winning though even if you ignore home advantage. If we lose the final, so long as we play well, it's still an amazing performance and would hopefully be cheered appropriately. To make it to the final weekend of two tournaments in a row would be worthy of all the praise they get.
Spain were shocking mate. They were lucky to get past Croatia (who we bossed) and Switzerland (who Italy bossed), I was praying we'd have them in the final but in the end was just surprised Italy made such hard work of it. Belgium didn't turn up but I do feel they'd have given us a hiding. They always seem to turn it on against us!
Spain were shocking but still made it to the Quarters? The match was on a knife edge against Croatia but it's a knockout comp. It's the way it is. Is it easier to play Spain or Ukraine? That's a no brainer. What you've effectively done is say, because spain struggled past the Croatians, they are rubbish. It would be exactly the same if i said Germany are crap cause they lost against the french who lost against the swiss and they also drew against hungary, so really we've beaten no one decent so far. It doesn't work like that though
