Not sure how much a packet of tabs costs in the UK atthe moment but they're between $30 and $50 a pack here. about 80% of that is tax.

There's roughly 2 million smokers in Oz so if the tax is $35 per pack (approximate guess) then that's $25,550,000,000 in tax revenue collected per year from smokers

You've only just come back to uk haven't you ?
    My father has emphysema etc.
He was a version of Oz only hard core and a "fùck off" would suffice.
Chatting to a 71 year old bloke thats had half a lung removed then the other half and he can't breath with a mask but can't take the abuse for not wearing one.

Do you want me to go on ?

Vaping is big business here now and the government want a slice to make up the shortfall on tobacco tax ;)

Thalidomide was first produced in the 1950s. Pharmaceutical technology and legislation has progressed so much since then that drawing a time comparison using the area of flight you would be comparing a WW1 biplane to a Tornado jet fighter.

The Covid-19 vaccines have been through all required testing. Firstly, the vaccine delivery vehicle had been developed and tested over the last 10 years - including being licensed as vaccine delivery mechanisms.

The active part of the vaccines have been properly tested - the only difference from normal is that certain phases of the trials were conducted concurrently rather than sequentially.

Hundreds of millions of people have received Covid-19 vaccine doses and benefits (reduction in deaths and serious illness) far outweigh the side effects.

Unfortunately, generally it is almost impossible to change the mindset of the likes of Corbyn's brother, David Icke or Piers Morgan with facts or the truth.

Climate deniers, will even as the weather gets more extreme, continue to say that humans pollutiing the planet do not play a part in climate change. Despite bodies like NASA and the Royal Society having the facts and figures in their websites. A similar contrariness is found with anti-vaxxer

Of course our unfortunate poster might just say be scared of needles, or something else irrational and let's this lead him down a blind alley. I really hope he does not get a bad dose of the delta variant... not the way i would ever wish to make the point.

You seem to be making assumptions of me as you obviously choose whichever information you perceive as fact.

    Lets start with climate change.
I do not deny man contributes to pollution.
I also know the planet has been heating and cooling for millions of years. Global warming is not a new thing ;)
But don't let that stop governments using it as a tool to rip you off for more taxes.
I suppose you bought a diesel car back in the day because the government told you they were cleaner and better for the environment ?

Unfortunately like all species human kind will become extinct just like all others and the rate the population is growing will speed it up.
Nature will select and clean up the mess ;)

    Anti vaxer ?
    No I'm not.
    Scared of needles ?
Nope, I have them at the dentist, had tetanus and blood samples taken.

Again it comes down to my legal choice and right.
    Unfortunate ?
Only if i take to much notice of interfering self righteous fookers ;)
I'm not telling anyone they shouldn't have it ;)

Oh and apologies to @Smug in Boots if I got the wrong end of the stick.
I was pìssed last night and pìssed off lol :D

The "are diesel batter for the environment" argument is to be fair wishy washy. You need to factor in the amount of fuel used campared to petrol as well.

Are you comparing current deisel technology to unleaded fuel or old diesel tech with leaded fuel?

There are literally thousands of articles online that explain how and why human activity is the cause of current rapid climate change. Unfortunately, anyone who doesn't want to believe the truth will have almost as many pseudo-scientific articles and conspiracy theories to back up their strange stance.

All the usual long and short term weather effects have not gone away...sun spots, Earth wobbling, winds/jet stream moving etc. It helps me if I see weather results as the outcome of lots of factors, a big algorithm if you like. Increasing industrialisation and population, has resulted in gases being released and other harmful effects, eg plastic that is not biodegradable.
So I picture the usual factors in the weather/climate equation plus an ever increasing effect from human activity. Not surprisingly this new factor upsets the outcomes making them more extreme, wetter wets, dryer drys, hotter hots etc.

It was probably some huge climate change effect, caused by metors/volcanos? that laid waste to all the food dinosaurs ate, that caused their extinction. Dinosaurs were around for a few hundred million years, humans have been around for a couple of million, unless we get our act together it might not be too much longer!

Obviously humans contribute to global warming, the Earth has gone through hot and cold periods ever since the big bang. TBH, no generations prior to this one have given a flying fcuk about the future of the planet, I choose not to, merely because we live in " easily deeply offended " era, and my beliefs pee many of these degenerates right off, so, happy with that. Serious, when you are long dead and buried you won't be giving a fcuk about the acid rain or the southeast coast washed away into oblivion.

Is it wrong that i often think that if the oceans rise 10 metres that my home will increase in value by about 1 million dollars as it will become beach front?

From what I hear, the Great Barrier Reef is bleaching, their are plagues of spiders and mice...

Getting a spot on Branson's/Musk's space trip is probably the best bet...

Ah so that's why the Chinese developed Whu Flu to save the planet, that was nice of them, even getting the Americans and Fauchi to pay for it

Deffo deleting the covid app on the 19th, whilst it's a useful tool I think it's outdated for fully vaccinated bods. There's going to be a hell of a lot self isolation pings by the 19th, fcuk that now, I've already done two stints of self imprisonment for no fault of my own. Still got another four days to push, even after double vaccination and three negative tests.
