So if true the logic here would presumably be for him to take Vestergaard’s slot and any cash from Vest be used elsewhere in the squad (or if we are truly skint to square the books after signing Perraud)
Williams from United is the perfect answer to any remaining fullback questions. It gives us three to cover two positions with one specialist LB and Williams/KWP can play right or left side. There’d be enough minutes with that configuration and we’d still have the option of Salisu or Stephens as emergency cover. Saliba on loan is interesting. Good young player but desperately needs minutes. It would definitely mean selling a CB. Vestergaard is the obvious one there. I’d hope we kept him though.
Are we doing some this "hijacking" the gossip sites love? He was meant to be off on loan to Marseilles. As apparently he 'still has a future at Arsenal", they will probably be more enthusiastic about him coming here, playing in the PL and settling in the country.
Not to be disrespectful to the lad but I would be a little bit worried about playing a 20 year old centre back in the Premier league.
As the saying goes, IF you're good enough, You're old enough. Don't forget Salisu is only 21 too i believe.
Fair point, but it took most of the season for Ralph to consider that Salisu was ready for the first team - we can`t have the same situation with a loanee.
True but I got the impression that Salisu was Injured / unfit... also we already had a pretty decent back 2 which was hard for Salisu to displace.
IF we sell Ings and replace him with Armstrong then I think we will seriously struggle to stay up. Reason we were doing so well at the start of last season is because Ings and JWP were banging in every chance we created. And we don't create many chances. Armstong scored so many in the Championship because he has a ridiculous amount of shots. Unless we suddenly start creating chances at a vastly higher rate (not going to happen given how poor our attacking players generally are) then we will struggle. Ings and Armstrong are polar opposites in terms of conversion rates, and in the PL, playing for a team that doesn't create much, you need someone that will stick away the few chances you create. Not to mention Ings created quite a few of his goals from nothing because hes just quality. This might sound really negative about Armstrong. But going by the stats and what type of team we are, it doesn't bode well imo if we are to replace Ings with Armstrong. If Armstrong is in addition to our current striking options then although I'm not convinced by it, it's far less of a risk.
If we can get Delaney, I think that frees JWP up a lot more to be a creative force in the midfield (much like he was against Romania for England). That would be a smart move, and mean that we'll create more. Hopefully.
If/when Danny Ings goes we can also hope/expect more from Nathan Tella who's 22nd birthday is today. H.B.N.T.
We've been hoping that for about five years. I have zero expectation of that changing this summer, especially given that we're hardly flush with cash.
I'd like to see less reliance on individuals and have goals coming from a bigger proportion of the team. If Nathan has a good season and bangs a few in we can expect the punditory pratts, Garth Crooks et al, to sell him off to (insert team here, profanity optional).
