Good Morning. It's Monday 5th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Confusion surrounds Firpo's salary

Junior Firpo is set to put pen to paper in the next few days, committing himself to the Whites for the next four years - but at what expense? Whilst it looks like Messrs Radrizzani, Orta and Bielsa have yet again pulled off a major coup by landing a player of Firpo's class; but a recent tweet from Barcelona Sports and radio journalist Gerard Romero has suggested that Leeds have smashed their wage structure to bring the 24yo to Elland Road.

Currently Firpo earns 85k per week, but according to Romero, Leeds will double his salary to a jaw dropping £170k per week; more than Barca pay Jordi Alba, Rafinha, Philippe Coutinho and a host of other first team stars.

The Leeds wage structure is far more modest. Raphinha's salary of £58,000 a week is believed to be the second highest at Elland Road where as many (as of last season) were still earning under £20,000 a week. How will they feel?

    Firpo arrives in England

According to 'The Athletic', Héctor Junior Firpo Adames, better known to Leeds fans as Junior Firpo, landed in England yesterday ahead of his medical and 12.8m transfer to Leeds from Barcelona.

Firpo was born in Dominican Republic, but has pledged his football allegiance to Spain, representing their 21 side four times. He played 41 times for the Spanish giants since his arrival in the Summer of 2019.

Although Spain remain on the amber list as far as flying restrictions go, as long as those travelling can demonstrate they have tested negative 24 hours before entering the UK, they can have unrestricted access.

    Morning all,

That wage for Firpo is a load of rubbish. No way would radz smash the wages structure like that in one go.
I can believe he will come in as the highest earner, maybe matching what he is on now, but £175,000 a week. Bullocks

14.00 at Ayr. The Cookstown Cafu is running in a 6 furlong g race May I be the first to say that Bielsas pre season training is getting out of hand now.

As you can see from the above actual Barcelona pay structure. Young Junior is on around £11,800 per week, so double it yes and he will be on less than £24k per week. I think he will be on more but not as much as Raphinha, who is behind Rodrigo. Bargain

    Morning all

I honestly believe journalists just pluck a random figure out the air when it comes to stating wages. He’ll probably be on no more than Rodrigo and Raphinha and I’d imagine another good start to the season by Raphinha and we’ll be offering an improved contract anyway

Should we be offering a new contract to Phillips?

I don't believe for one minute that he will leave but everyone is going to be sniffing round after the euros. Would a pay rise be the statement needed to tell them where to go?

There are so many differing reports on wages, some 10's of thousands or even a hundred thousand difference

It seems that today Junior will be having his medical and the deal will be finalised, so expecting white smoke later today. Great news and means his covid protocol will be sorted and he gets the full pre season to learn Bielsaball. There are ways around covid protocols for elite sport bubbles. Junior will have had a test early last week and then every other day up to the day before he flew to Leeds. He will have had another test on the day and another upon arrival in Leeds. He will have one this morning and if clear he will join the Leeds Utd bubble this afternoon and be tested hen tested tomoz and Wednesday before completing the protocols so not having to be quarantined

Agreed but thing to look for is that Barcelona do not pay big wages until the player becomes a regular first team squad player. Ansu Fati is on the fringes even though he is expected to become more prolific than Messi, Todibo was continually loaned out and has just joined Nice on a permanent deal, Alenis is mainly out on loan and Junior has been on loan but now back on the fringes. So the players on the list above these few are full time first team squad and paid much more….

Wasn't that two years ago? At the start of our last championship season?

I just think it wouldn't hurt to put him nearer the top end of prem wages.

Now been confirmed that a 5th winger has been on Orta’s radar. Lyon winger Maxwell Cornett, who has been mentioned a few times in the past weeks, but now Lyon have been approached. We offered £10m they want £20m but in fairness this seems to be the going price for the type of winger we’re chasing.

I posted clips of the other 4 we have been chasing yesterday, so heres Max Cornet

Confirmed by who Doc? If true Bielsa may be planning on moving Raphinha infield to play as a 10 and give him license to roam.

He will still have to tested on day 5 same as anyone else. Then if clear he can be released. There are no special rules.

This is the lad who has been a winger most of his career but spent the last year at left back for lyon... when his name cropped up i thought it was as a lb alternative.

Not sure what foot this lad actually prefers, but given everyone of our attacking players bar roberts is a southpaw i'd be surprised if our 'winger' options weren't right footed for a bit of balance.

So british people have to quarantine for ten days but he coming to England from Spain is excused?. How does that work then and have you a link. Because if this is the case why the hell should we have to quarantine.

Was around for a couple of weeks but late last night was first confirmation of an actual bid. Olymique Lyonaise confirmed that discussions had taken place for a few weeks and yesterday a €12m bid (£10m) rejected. Was on the official OM Mercato site too and then this paragraph from another outlet

“Despite the signing of Firpo, it seems Leeds could continue their search for another left-back with rumours they have made a bid for Cornet.

Olympique et Lyonnais claim that the Yorkshire club have ‘been interested’ in Lyon defender Cornet ‘for a few months’.

However, they have made their interest concrete by making a €12m bid for the Ivory Coast international but it ‘does not satisfy’ Lyon.”

Looks to me like Bielsa wants cover/competition for Harrison which Costa and Poveda are not giving him. Each of the wingers we’re looking at can either play both flanks or are left sided players like Lang, KK and Cornet?
