So it wasn’t just a few Chelsea fans then. Good to clarify that point. Fifty thousand fans can get into St James’ Park and there are many more times that number in England and again more so in the UK and again in Europe and again in the World. If every fan sent an email that could easily get in to the hundreds of thousands and get to a level which Government’s sit up and take notice. If, however, you have a defeatist attitude then clearly that doesn’t help. No problem with people protesting but a smallish number of fans protesting in London will not be as effective as hundreds of thousands of fans sending written protests IMO.
A meeting in which the NUST were given barely 15 mins of time and then fobbed off. The government react to populist anger when its the entire nation and the media too who are doing the shouting. A few thousand people from a part of the country that they consider to be inconsequential will have no effect on them. The government are invested in this simply due to the Saudi connection but they still havent gotten involved more than one year on into this farce. Why havent they made that call to Masters after what went down in early September? And yes, the people who have influence are those with ties to the government. Which begs the question, why aren't the Rueben brothers giving Johnson an earful about transparency? These two have a massive amount of influence compared to any group of NUFC supporters.
There's a uk government petition thing that is waiting for verification, should do more use than a change.org petition.
Erm, no. We clarified that Johnson stopped the ESL by himself. If If If. Are you missing the part where nobody in football outside of NUFC's support wants this to happen? Last summer, thousands of people wrote to their MPs demanding action. How did that go again? I will repeat. The only action with this situation that influences the UK government and the PL is people taking to the streets.
No. I think you have already agreed it was due to “the widespread contempt towards the proposal by pretty much everyone in the country and media.” . So not just Boris. No. I have already from people I speak to shown others being non Newcastle fans would like the takeover to go through. No. Again you have just said Boris got involved with the ESL due to “the widespread contempt towards the proposal by pretty much everyone in the country and media.” Not people taking to the streets. Other than those points I totally agree with you.
Because, and I mean no disrespect, they're the NUST - what are they really going to do? The point is, the government saw enough benefit in giving them a voice. It means they see voters in that fan base. It means they see football fans as voters. They also see a fat whad of cash coming via Saudi Arabia if we continue to strengthen our trade links. I'm not justifying any of their acts, I'm providing motive. We've already allowed our champion boxer to fight out there, and everything I've read indicates the Saudi's want a more prominent - PR friendly - voice in the West. They also want to diversify their assets, and part of that is being seen on the global stage as it opens doors. The Premier League is the global stage. Chances are they won't make a penny out of us if they get the takeover. But, they'll have indirectly bought a huge platform in the same way Man City did.
I stated the reason why the ESL was stopped. Thats very different to agreeing on who actually stopped it. It was actually the media reaction that got Johnson involved, not fans. Pundits like Neville who were up in arms about it. I'm baffled why you cant see the difference between an entire nation in uproar about something compared to the supporters of one football club. If other people outside of NUFC are in support of the takeover then the law of averages would suggest that this percentage of people are represented on internet forums. So can you point me to somewhere on a forum where there has been support? Just finding one poster on the Mackem RTG board will have me seriously impressed.
