Not surprised. What player that they want rid of could we possibly want? Did they send anyone out on loan for wage reasons last year? Because if not of course we flat rejected an offer of a championship reserve

Only possible option would be the mooted versatile full back cover because we will struggle to bring someone established to sit on the bench

Unless Ralph’s grand plan with the goalkeepers last year was to prove to potential signings that he will rotate (almost) anyone and break the perceived wisdom of not shaking up a settled defence ...

Wasn’t one of Smallbone’s best games the one he got injured in? And he played in one of the advanced midfield two rather than the “number 6” role

What kind of midfielder is Grimes? I am sure we were linked with him before Swansea ...

Wow! - they are the most northerly club in the UK (not including the Highland league) - he couldn`t get any further away from Soton. It`ll be interesting to see how he gets on.

<laugh>. Honestly, it took me a few seconds to work that one out, which made it all the more funny to me!

I don't want to seem picky, but his badge seems to be on the wrong side of his tee shirt... just saying.

Anyone else thinking that we missed an opportunity not signing Mahele? Never knew anything about him but he is looking a helluva player in these Euros.

IF we pull this off, Whilst Keeping Ings that would be very decent.

It is easy to say this but he has primarily been a revelation as an attacking wing back as part of a 3-4-3 or back 5. We don’t play this way

I haven’t watch the games closely enough but is his defending like?

He was linked as a right back and is tearing it up a left wing back. Perhaps there were real reservations about his defensive contribution as part of a back 4?

If there is an explanation that would be it. Not the “penny pinching” one you see on saintsweb

Can only hope this is true. If we can do this along with a new CM and the full back cover then things are looking good on paper

Imagine if the rumours of Delaney for 8-10m were true but just quiet due to the tournament

Hold onto Ings as it doesn’t seem like a champions league club is coming in for him

Then there is already talk of us being all over a Vestergaard replacement if someone comes in for him. And it seems like we can have more faith in our recruitment than in recent years

Ship out Lemina, Ely, Long, N’Lundulu and maybe Obafemi

I would expect the goalkeeper situation to stay the same as the budget seems like it could be better used elsewhere

What do people make of our attempts to get back up for full backs. How are we going to get someone who will join for our bench but be able to cut it at premier league level

We have been linked with Neco Williams but 10m is a lot for use to spend on a back up right back and would he want to trade Liverpool’s bench for our? As far as I know he can’t cover both sides

Brandon Williams sounds like he can cover both but the talk is only a loan and playing time would be a factor in getting that agreement

I don’t know if there are any central midfielders who can back up at full back or vice versa. Seems an uncommon position combo especially with modern full backs. Same with finding someone who can play the kind of attacking full back we like but be able to cover in the centre of defence. They also seems more uncommon now

Given how hard we tried to get him in January, Maitland-Niles would be the obvious initial suggestion.

i guess the question is does he cover full back or wing back. Since I think there is a difference and it is my running theory as to why we backed off of Maehle

What even is his natural position? If I recall it is wide but he “wants” to play central

I’ll look him up since I am interested now
