Interesting points from Ali Gold now Nuno is appointed. Makes a good point that Paratici in over a decade at Juve only signed 3 Mendes players, and that the good relationship he and Nuno have with Mendes should be probably viewed as more of a door-opener than an indication that we’re going to be swamped with Portuguese players this summer. There was also an institutional relationship with Mendes at Wolves that is partly linked to, and indeed may even pre-date, their Chinese owners. Whether this comes to pass or not is totally up in the air of course but in the way that Wolves fit in to Mendes’ plans for his players as part of a feeder network almost, I think Levy is too proud to allow that to happen to Spurs, let alone the implications of it on a practical level. Let’s see what happens.

Used to really like him as a player but I don’t think age has been to kind the last couple of years. Not aged as well as, say, Modric I believe. I’d rather have him in the squad than a Winks or Sissoko but frankly I think we should be focused on getting a CB then cutting as much deadwood as we can before we start looking at luxury signings like him.
If it’s a loan then it’s only a small fee and wages (or percentage of) so I don’t think he’d affect the budget too badly. I do agree though that he’s not the same player he once was but as you’ve said, rather him than Sissoko or Winks in your team.
The money isn’t the issue for me, though I don’t know what he earns and how much we’d have to contribute. It’s more the non-HG places in the squad, which are already tight for us.
I’d imagine a good few are gonna be booted eventually though. Vinicius’ loan expired yesterday too and I highly doubt he’ll be returning, gotta fancy Lamela, Sissoko and Aurier to leave at the least too.
