How worried are people about the lack of activity? I can’t lie I’m starting to have a few doubts. I hope I’m just being paranoid but I find this all utterly bizarre.
I have ventured into the slightly worried, but not overly so. If it's the right players, whilst you'd want them to sign immediately its not a problem if not. The worry is that we normally take this long to then sign the wrong players. My fear is that we are waiting for preferred targets (like O'Nien and Sanderson) to make their minds up, and those preferred targets likely come with large contract offers. Until we know if they accept, we don't know what we can afford elsewhere. Frankly, whilst they've talked a very good game about recruitment, until we actually recruit anyone its hard to know if they'll be right. Methven and Donald took a very different approach but also talked a good game at the start about wanting young, hungry players that want to play for Sunderland etc. It's dead easy to talk a good game. Just got to hope that if our initial targets turn us down, we don't just go for the "who's left?" approach which we seem to have done every season forever.
I'll add that this all changes in a minute if we announce a signing tonight. That's all it takes. In other news...
I am not worried at this stage. Maybe that is because I am so focussed on the Euros. Maybe all our targets have a quarter final upcoming If I understand how the recruitment process works they will have identified a number of options in each position they want. It will be a case of trying for 1st choice, then second etc. The optimist in my thinks the 1st choice may be key players for other teams so it takes time to prise them away. I think our head of recruitment is an experienced fella too and he will know when a deal looks unlikely and will move on. So if he is still sticking with some targets it will be because he thinks it will happen. Lots of free agents available today. I wouldnt be surprised to see one or two of them with a scarf above their head in the next few days. They may not be the main men though.
Also, I suspect in re-signing McGeady we have signed the best player yet in this division. Plus we have the key youngsters, and Embleton in the squad as of now.
I’m worried, the current squad is nowhere near good enough for promotion. Lee Burge is our number 1 FFS. There’s so much work to do over the next few weeks.
Signings could/should be announced this weekend. These guys want promotion this season..signings will show that. KTF
The fact that we are letting players go tells me KLD & LJ have no worries about players coming in. That's good enough for me. Also happy that we might also give a chance to some of our own young lads instead of bringing last pay day mercenaries on board. I still expect 4-5 quality signings coming in to bolster the existing squad.
that last line is my only worry, as you rightly say, it seems to have been the approach for a few seasons along with paying well over the odds for some. i am still (just) sticking with my original thoughts of 'this is a new recruitment team, specifically chosen for a specific job and they know what they are doing' so not in panic mode just yet, although i do expect some freebies in to 'bulk' the squad up i also feel they have players targetted and as we are not privvy to the everyday goings on, we have basically no feckin idea and not a clue about what may/may not be going on. the downside is that pre-season is all but upon us and just like every other supporter i really wanted to see at least two or three in and training with the rest of the squad.
I'm completely relaxed about transfers. They will happen, we just have to be patient and trust the people responsible to do a good job of player recruitment.
I'm relaxed about incomings. These lads know what they are doing, have a plan and that plan will be executed. Still recruiting for off the field positions as well so it's all coming together. I can't wait for next season!
Jacob Carney Man U goalie imminent apparently. Been to graft so not sure if this has already been mentioned.
We are mentioned in this article: https://www.unitedinfocus.com/acade...ght-future-despite-manchester-united-release/ Decent write up tbh. 'First team ready' aged 20 due to 3 loan spells already. This is exactly what we need to do with our lads, not stifle them in the rezzies then release them.
