Maybe booing the opposition is giving them the uppermost respect? We don't do it against teams that we don't feel threatened by (Scotland apart).

There's maybe a debate to be had about whether its acceptable to boo the national anthem - I have no problem with it - I'd rather have that than chanting about the 2nd world war. But booing the team in possession? That's gone on as far as I can remember and its absolutely part of creating an intimidating atmosphere that stays on the right side of offensive. Remember that we were booing our own players at the end of the Scotland game!

Good opposition players thrive on that type of atmosphere - think Ronaldo - and I would be really worried if any England players complained about being booed by opposition crowds (unless it was racially motivated).

Its just a bit of pantomime. Lets face it, if the ground was full of fans that wouldn't boo the opposition, they probably wouldn't have been creating the atmosphere that we all enjoyed so much.

Hmm, subtle or succinct, subtle it is. In life I'm far to the left of many on here, but when it comes to football my habits won't be changing. For the 90 minutes of a match opposition teams are ****, and their fans ****s, and I'll let them know at the top of my voice. Mr Cholmondley Warner types that don't like this are free to ignore it, or go **** themselves. :emoticon-0100-smile

Wonder if there’s going to be lots of positive results after Wimbledon? Can’t see many masks but lots of people.

Taking a knee is a statement being made by our players. Nothing to do with wider politics just a statement that racial prejudice wont be tolerated.

If you take issue with that then its for your own concience to square, not theirs.

Back to the England game, I’m not going to get too carried away, even if we win it. After the last Euros where we ****ed up against Iceland, I’ll never take anything for granted, same as Hull City last season, but I will support & will celebrate any success we have!

Why must they make it before the start of the game?

    How successful has it been?

Will other imported political causes be highlighted too?

The only reason people associate it with a political movement is because it was brought in when the BLM was plastered all over everything, including Sky Sports.

Considering the negative reaction from. Closet racists and spurious arguments about 'politics' made by the same folk, the fact that booing is now drowned out by support then think its been pretty damn effective.

Will they have the courage of their convictions and refuse to go to Qatar? Will those backing the knee gesture have the courage of theirs, and refuse to engage with the tournament?

Its 20 seconds before a match at the behest of the players themselves. Why does it piss you off so much?

You call it ' imported'. Its the players choice to highlight something they collectively see as an issue.
