    Morning

    1.55 Worcester-Orsino

    Each Way @ 11-2 [Ladbrokes]

Tipped this horse last time when backed into 3-1 from 15-2 but never put into the race, could be a different story today

    Worcester

    13,55 Royal Chant 9/1 e/w with bet365, others 17/2, all three places.

First run after wind surgery. Maybe that could be the key.

    Worcester 3.05 Master Sunrise

Course form reads 263102. 3lb below last winning mark. Stable with several runners in the money last 14 days. James King takes off 3lb. Should run well for each way purposes.

    Thirsk 3.20 Magical Effect

Course form reads 13225501. Won a year ago on June 29th at Thirsk of 3lb higher than today. Last run best excused when left poorly placed but running on in 6th at Pontefract. Josie Gordon a decent jockey booking.Yard had a few runners placed last 14 days so form not to bad.

Before Dawn is seemingly the Appleby first string with Frankie up in the 5.35 Kempton. A second place on debut was followed up by a 4th next time against fillies who ran in Group races probably make her the one to beat but those fillies made little impact next time and the overall form of both her races hardly look special.

I took a chance on the unraced National Dance. By Dubawi out of Strathspey, she may upset the FAV at 7/1

Again punted off the board [11-4], went clear and folded tamely when headed:huh:

Unlucky. I think he would have won with SP 16/1.

Seemed to be travelling well and making his move when coming down. Hard lines with that one at good odds.

I can remember Stick coming on here and explaining about wind surgery. 2nd time outs the charm, apparently.

And... I've just noticed these comments. I didn't see the race, so I just thought it hadn't finished anywhere <ok>

Normally the second race after the operation is the best, but there are times when the effects are also felt in the first race. The horse was going great and when he was passing the horses in front of him he was hampered and fell.

The wind op angle has rather petered out -

Headgear Runners Winners Win S/R EX Wins
    WS 6937 774 11.16 815.55
    WS1 2405 250 10.4 247.73
    WS2 1864 217 11.64 224.65
    WS3 1514 160 10.57 181.26

This shows that horses with Wind Surgery, be it the first run, second run or third run are overbet and they get fewer winners than expected if you look at the market expectations. They all have a negative Profit/Loss to SP and same with the evening prices.

It should really never be forgotten that the reason a horse has wind surgery is because it has a breathing problem. Wind surgery often helps but it shouldn’t ever be seen as a guarantee or even an indicator that this was the problem in the first place.

What it says to me the most is that wind op horses are overbet. I guess that’s the issue when the data is at the fingertips of everyone rather than the yard as it was before.
