Why did he not play like that with Wolves though? And surely it’s not good if the manager is being told which formation he’s being told to use or not use
Maybe he had the players that suited that formation? Doherty looked very good in that system, for example.
Possibly took a pragmatic approach with a team trying to initially stay in the Prem? His style was effective there in fairness, just not particularly pleasing from a neutral. I’ve said before I think he’s a good manager, he’s just not really what I’d call a “Spurs manager”. Though if he’s willing to try and adapt then fair play. As for what he has to do here, he’s essentially going to be part of Paratici’s team and if Paratici wants things a certain way then he’ll need a manager that can do that and presumably Nuno is happy to work in that sort of relationship.
But who’s to say what formation he will want to use at Spurs, I’m sure he’s familiar with the players but he’s never worked with most of them before so once up close, he may decide to play a different way than what he’s been told by the higher powers. Basically my badly made point is, he shouldn’t be restricted to only use certain formations and tactics which is what it sounds like Ali Gold is saying.
I doubt he'll be told what formations and tactics to use. It sounds like Levy was convinced by Paratici demonstrating that he was capable of playing attacking football, if that article's to be believed.
All the article says really is that he has played different formations and has been more attacking when he has had different players at his disposal. That can't be a bad thing. Whether it's a good thing depends on whether his assessment of players' strengths and weaknesses is accurate.
I'd be shocked if were not set up to play 343 this coming season. We have Doherty, Reguilon and Sessegnon that are perfect as wing backs. Obviously we would need to bring in 2 top CB's ( Skriniar and Kounde please) Would also need 1 other inside forward in the attacking three.
OK...gotta be honest... I mentioned Nuno back in February cos I saw Wolves play us at Wembley in 2018 and they were really entertaining. I know they were dull this season but assumed it was cos they effectively lost their strikers so had no focal point. My issue is that Nuno will be seen as "6th or 7th choice" by the media and some fans so the team and he will be under immediate, immense scrutiny and pressure. Unless we start well he'll be effectively a dead man walking.
He’s not a bad manager by any means but he’s just not an entertaining type of manager. I think Traore got a few bums off seats with his pace but other than that Wolves were never really entertaining in my opinion. I think he’ll be someone who can get a solid amount of results here but will we enjoy it for the most part? That’s where the issue will potentially be for me. Somewhat similar to Jose, you can enjoy the wins but the losses are doubly bad.
I think that in the first season and most of the second season that wolves were decent to watch but admittedly, I did not see a huge amount of their games live and highlights can be deceptive. I just think that if he don't get off to a good start the atmosphere will be toxic towards him, Levy and the board and that will make for a feeding frenzy
I think the latter part of your post would apply to just about any manager tbh mate. There’s a very glum look on things at the moment and getting off to a poor start will just increase the toxicity. Really doesn’t help facing City on matchday 1, lol.
After Sterling made his horrendous mistake which Muller missed, did anyone notice the speed at which Walker tried to close him down? When they played it back in slow motion it looked like he was still moving at normal speed!
