Like I said, I could make a case for Shaw. You can make a case for Robbinson… in truth neither are as good as Davies has looked.
I don't think we have any world class players in the squad. Stirling is the closest we have to world class.
You thought we’d get pulled apart by Germany and Shaw pocketed Kimmich and Havertz and had a major role in both goals as we walked past them. Robbo literally got turned every which way by a player who couldn’t get in the Everton side as his team crashed out in the group stage.
That's the problem, the bench mark always used to be Ronaldo and Messi, with Neymar thrown in. Zlatan was in the Neymar bracket a few years back as well. All extremely good forward players, focal points of their teams, unarguably. If that's world class, then we don't have any. We've got plenty players in the bracket below though. it's just having someone decide what the actual **** world class is.
This. Ern isn’t wrong, he just has a different view on what World Class is. I’ll stand by my statement though, Foden gets in any team in world football, because nobody has 3 attackers better than him.
Problem with saying players like Rice are world class, is there’s no higher class, so he’s automatically in with Kante, Pirlo, Zidane etc. Nah.
totally agree there, if Ronaldo & Messi are the benchmark then there has been less than 10 world-class players ever, and there's never been a world-class defender.
If Rice isn't world-class, why do the fans of Man U, Man City & Chelsea want him? I agree that he hasn't impressed much for England, as someone who watches him week in week out it's obvious he's been told to sit back more and protect the defence, and hasn't been given rein to drive forwards like he does at West Ham. Then again, we've conceded 0 goals and have pretty much controlled each game from the centre of the park, so he can't be that bad. Also, teams haven't really attacked us, I don't think you'll see the best out of Rice until the final and we play teams that want to control the ball like Belgium, Italy or Spain.
Sterling would probably get in most teams 11s. The dropping back and more CF role that Kane had under Mourinho had a lot of people saying he was the best striker in the world at that moment, he's not being utilised properly by Southgate.
I generally use Sterling to take the piss, for two reasons. One is because I do rate him as a player, certainly for effort anyway. Would I class him as world class, bearing in mind he plays for City and has scored 3 goals in the Euros so far - The answer is NO. The second reason, I get pi55ed off he don't get the same plaudits as Kane. Life always has been easier for the white man in an England shirt, people can make what they want of that - Twitter, never fails to deliver for those still wondering. I call players like Gerd Muller, Maradona, World Class and they did it, without even trying. Some would call Ronaldo world class, I'd argue he is a world class athlete, but I'm not convinced he fits that description as a footballer, he loves himself too much to put his body on the line. The closest we've got, we saw in the first 20 minutes against Croatia, then didn't make the side against Germany. Yet Kane gets a nailed on place everytime - suppose it's like going to the beach really and there being no donkey rides, it creates tears.
Saw a lot of that yesterday, poor delivery from him, and sometimes went it alone when he should have passed. It took Grealish to open it up. So fair comment.
I don’t want him if that helps. Not yet anyway, he’s a very decent player but at £100m it’s just laughable. He needs to be the finished article for that sorta bunse. If his name was Devlan Ricovic he’d be worth £35m tops.
World Class is subjective as people will always have their own view of what it means as well as having a differing view of how good they think a player is. In general I reckon a world class player will be roughly one of the top five players in their respective position throughout world football (or Europe seeing as that’s where 99% of the worlds’ best play). If you find it tough mentioning more than three or four better players than a particular individual then I think they should be held in high regard and labelled world class.
