I'm looking for a men's football team to join in Hull, and was wondering if anyone on here was in one or knew of one they could reccommend? I'm an attacking player; generally a striker or winger, but I'd play anywhere if asked to. I can travel to pretty much anywhere around Hull. Having just come out of U18s I don't know much about the men's setup, and as such I have no idea how my ability will compare to the various men's leagues. I spent most of my team in youth football in Division 3 (or Wyke division as it used to be called) so I'm no world-beater but I did a pretty good job at that level and I'm very committed. Any help/advice would be much appreciated, cheers!
Not that I can help you directly because it's been a while since I played in Hull, but how many Divisions were there from top to bottom in the U18s? You don't know much about the men's, but the rest might not know much about the U18s so it might help them to help you if they have a relative ability. When I was playing men's league there were about 18 divisions split into 9 divisions each for Wyke and Myton Leagues (regional split rather than one being better than the other). With the smaller age group available at U18s I'm imagining there's less than 9 divisions from top to bottom, but if you were playing in say 3 of 6 it's right in the middle, so unless someone knows the two systems better I would have thought that unless you're slow and small* it would make sense to look to start in men's 4 or 5 so you're in the middle again, if you were in 3 of 3 try starting in say 7 and just see how you get on. *If you've got pace you're going to have an advantage over the old defences you often get, and if you're slow but big it'll be a bit tougher physically than you're used to, but unless you're Caleb Folan's softer brother you should adapt.
Yeah you're right Ricardo, to clear up any confusion there were only 3 divisions at under 18 level and I have mostly played in the 3rd of 3.
As long as you put yourself about and open your mouth, you won't struggle at mens level. Most of it is just getting stuck in and communication.
Try the 5 a sides at the stadium all weather pitch. Might not be your cup of tea, but you should make the contacts you need there.
Ive just finished university so im also looking for a team in the hull area if there is any team out there needing two players!!
Cheers, sounds like a good idea. Whereabouts is it? Sounds good, but I work Wednesday nights so I would have to tinker with my schedule to come along.
HBSFL have just created a new U20s league. Coaching a U18s team now, I would strongly recommend going into U20s before open age.
Unfortunately I work Wednesday nights so I can't mate, but thanks a lot for the offer. Cheers pal. I dind't realise this I will have a shoofty now, thanks a lot.
The game times vary from 6.30pm, 7pm, 7.30pm, and 8pm each week. We normally seem to play at 7pm most weeks though.
