Don't need time to realise the likes of Jackson, Nsiala, Donación and Nolan are poor!! I mean clubs are hardly clambering over each other to sign these players
In one window Hurst did better at signings than Lambert in all his time. Edwards, Nsiala and Donacien were good signings in my book. Jackson had one good season but is the only big flop for me. He’s always been hampered by what’s around him but the excuses ran out for him last season. Nolan would have got the nod from me over Dozzell all day long.
If the owners want to get promoted this season the sustainable approach needs to come after an injection of substantial investment.
The reservation I have is that their plan is based on strategy they’ve employed successfully in the US may not be as effective in England because the clubs around us and in the leagues above us are a lot more switched on. For that reason I’m not getting carried away until I see us either regularly winning by several goals or at the top of League One in the Spring.
I hope that Cook sticks with Woolfy and Nsiala but I am doubtful he will and we at least need a couple more.
Think Wolfenstein would benefit from being on the bench for a bit taking the pressure off and allowing him to develop and learn from more established players as for Nsiala I’m still not convinced by him.
QPR fan - I think that with Bonne coming to you for a year, you will see a few goals. Last year the boy lost his sister who he was close to and had a few appearances mainly before Christmas in a side that was struggling. When Charlie came in, he had an impact on Dykes and I would imagine that he has had some sort of impact on Bonne. Give the boy a chance, He took a step up in the leagues - a new season will see a player wanting to prove himself. Good luck for the season
New keeper signs Vaclav Hladky: Ipswich Town sign Salford City goalkeeper for undisclosed fee https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57646243 And more good news! Aaron Drinan: Leyton Orient sign Ipswich Town striker for undisclosed fee https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57643952
I’m desperate for us to sign some CBS. Once you’re hard to beat it’s a lot easier to not lose…. All successful teams are based on a strong defence and a team that can defend as a unit as well as it rampages forwards. Harper is a good signing and one we would never have made under Evans. with Drinan gone too Bonne is probably a good value addition to give us decent quality and competition…which means I feel a more established striker is on the cards. Maybe at Christmas. Not all the ideal players we want can be available right now just cos we want them.
I feel like if we’re well organised we will do fine at the back but we need more options to come in for inevitable injuries. Up front though we don’t even have the first team goal scoring options to be rotated let alone players to come in. And we still don’t have a strong CDM. Another five or six players at least need to come in.
One more in! Matt Penney: Ipswich Town sign Sheffield Wednesday player on two-year deal https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57652329
So is Hladky a really good goalie and our new no1? At 30 and coming from Salford it hardly feels like he’s a gem we’ve suddenly unearthed. But If he’s a step up and we’ve got Holy spare that’s good obvs. I know nothing about the weds lad. Penny for your thoughts?
I don’t know much about Penney but Hladky was a fantastic keeper for Salford and if he can make the step up where other good League Two players have failed I would say 30 is a decent age for a keeper. Then again, I don’t think Holy has done an awful lot wrong.
First 3 signings seems pretty solid, players who've shown they can handle it at this level or above. Second 3 signings seem more of players who've got it to prove, I'm prepared to go with Cook's judgement and have no problem with signing players with something to prove, the problem in the past is we haven't had enough players with proven ability at our level (who aren't over the hill)
