If the match goes to penalties, and ten players from each side have taken a penalty, what happens next? Do Ukraine use their eleventh player, and do Sweden choose a player to take two penalties? In short, if there are different numbers of players left on the pitch, how do penalties work?

He wasn't red carded for intent, he was red carded for it being reckless. Going in hard, studs up at knee height with no ability to get his foot out of the way in the follow through.
At this rate England won’t have anyone to play against ….. looks like neither team will have enough players!
So …. As a defender I have to think “oh I mustn’t lick this ball away in case the attacker runs on to it and I catch him on his leg”? Bloody ridiculous in my opinion ……
I have to agree. Sure it was accidental but if you injure a player so badly he has to go off it has to be classed as dangerous play.
His leg clearly buckled with the impact of the challenge. It was an awful challenge and got what he deserved.
No he wasn’t - he kicked the ball away - a decent clearance ….. but the forward ran on to him. If there hadn’t been a player there would he have been pulled up for a high boot? It’s a crazy rule - defenders shouldn’t be allowed to kick it away then? I can’t see that as an “horrific challenge” - he was just clearing the ball …. oh well - I clearly don’t understand the rules ….
I don’t think it was an awful challenge at all. The result was awful but that was just unfortunate. He had to clear that ball and to get there first he had to kick it quick. Unfortunate all round IMO.
Thanks - I’d tend to give a red for a sneaky trip when the man is away from you or a little stamp on your opponent …..
