But why? I don’t understand ….. he’s looking at the ball and he kicks the ball …. I don’t see what the defender can do!

 

The Ukrainian’s knee looks a mess though.

 

I do feel sorry for the Sweden player, (and the Ukrainian). Just unfortunate, he won the ball and can’t do anything about his foot after that. It was there to be won, nothing intentional in it. Looked really nasty though on the Ukrainian, his leg bent the wrong way

 

I know, but there was no malice. He ran on to a foot which had kicked the ball - it was an unfortunate accident. It’s a physical game and it’s not like the Swedish player went out to deliberately catch him. It’s one of those decisions I just can’t understand - it looks awful in slow motion, but it was purely accidental.

 

I’m not a doctor but I’d have thought you put his leg in a brace there and carry him off on a stretcher. Dont want to cause any further damage.
