Too many years of watching England and Saints has made bitter disappointment my constant expectation in life.
I am here and thinking back to great afternoons back in the UK watching football with a thousands of mainly wonderful people. If for no other reason, it would be wonderful for England to win.
The top story, and the first ten minutes, of the One o'clock BBC News, was wholly devoted to England vs Germany. Football fever has gripped the nation! (Well, except for St Luigi Scrosoppi, but he is always contrary)
The first 10 mins of my daily standup with all US colleagues will be about England too. It's gripping the world. It really is the greatest game. Until later. Maybe.
Can you hold your meeting whilst standing in front of an England flag, and/or Skinner and Baddiel 'Coming Home'? Or would that be too subtle for Americans?
lol i am wearing an England shirt and I will be sharing my screen at the start with Wembley 1996 singing Football's coming home
COME ON ENGLAND!! The nerves have been slowly building all day. Head says Germany, heart says England.
England all the way. I noticed that in 2012 when we lost on pens to them - heart, head and emotions with England. If either get to the final it can't be against each other. Please
I've been sick with nerves all day - stomach doing somersaults. Pub booked or 4pm so hopefully a beer will take the edge off. Can't remember I felt this nervous for anything, let alone a football match!
I never get as nervous for Saints - partially as expectations are a lot lower as, well, it's Saints. Plus I think of the bigger picture, yes staying up that season was important but none of us will be telling our grandkids about that season where we didn't go down. Whereas if England ever did win a major trophy in our lifetime, it would unite an entire country and inspire millions.
Whose idea? Still, listening to John Murray and his co-commentator (is it Bruce Ball?) and Chris Waddle will be good.
