Mo Farrah misses the Olympic team At 38 he's probably nearing the end anyway, if only he hadn't wasted his time trying to go Marathon.
Just another old man chasing the dragon. Andy Murray is another. Just retire already, no shame in it, they've had great careers, but it's done for them.
Yeah it takes the gloss off doesn't it? You cant be doing I'm a celebrity and then coming out thinking you can run the time on track having not touched a track in years. Murray is only damaging himself playing on realistically. He will regret it as he ages imo.
2 bad crashes at TdF today ( one caused by a youth trying to get on telly ) and Froome looks like he might be out after the 2nd .
That spectator, wow, what a stupid numbnut boy/girl/other ... should be prosecuted and be presented with a rather massive bill for the carnage See my previous post about Froome, another codger chasing it ... never gonna catch it again Chris (or the sharp end of the GC for that matter), no matter how fast you spin those legs. They're all just tarnishing their legacies carrying on, getting beat by guys they'd probably wipe out in their earlier glory days. With the tennis, even Federer, given his performance on the grass in Halle, should be thinking about about hanging it up. I know he's been injured, had surgery and he's one of my top sportspeople but it's kind of sad to see.
Yeah, I could sort of understand Farah given it's about fame and glory and making money but Federer, Murray, froome and such should have so much wedge they ought to be making business their thing. Schumacher should never ever have got in that Mercedes as well. He probably knew he shouldn't as well. Williams should have retired too. She's not able win that final slam title cos she just cant get about. She will try Wimbledon based on serve and a couple being out bit she will probably go out before semis. We are seeing the aging of messi on conaldo as well. It's a really end of sporting era. The woods masters was a real swansong there and Mickelson has one too. That's another sport that's changed a lot and not for the better. (Too many chavvy people who think rivalries, smacktalk and hitting the ball.miles in random directions is good play.) Hamilton v verstappen is another real changing of the guard moment happening before our eyes based on mercedes focusing on the next years car.
True enough, they've got business projects and tie-ins with sports/clothing companies though that they could focus more on as an alternative, but I appreciate the point
Yeah, there is that for sure. Maybe they need to realise the can compete better at something else and throw that energy into something that's not physical? Then again it has to be something that's interesting to them as well. I suppose a lot of sportspeople write books about how hard it is to retire.
Been watching the NBA playoffs, really good so far after the disappointment of last year in that like a lot of sports it suffered with no crowd.
F1 interesting result. Spoiler: Spoiler When do sky stop playing the hamilton fan boy card and start playing the down the middle card? It was a good race today with a few good passes but verstappen absolutely dominated
I've only just finished watching (avoided this thread as I didn't want to see the result, fair play for using the spoiler). Fair game now though... Max smashed it, lead from start to finish and was 16secs ahead even before Lewis pitted near the end. Lewis warned about track limits again too. TBF to Lewis, he pretty much accepted this outcome in his post qualifying interview yesterday. Le Clerc was superb bar the first corner.
There seems to be a competitive enough scenario where people are at least trying different pit stop strategies as well. It didn't work this time but perez gave it a good go to do for bottas. I am sure verstappen always wanted to pull that stop on the line **** and got the chance to today. Hamilton is maximising what he has left but bar that Mercedes would be already out of it. When drivers are willing to lean on the tyres they can overtake and make some fun for us. Too much tyre saving still but there was some good midfield passing.
