And if they are moving inch by inch as happens in those situations. If (when) electric cars get stranded like that how do you get charging to multiple stranded vehicles??! At least with petrol / diesel you can refill from a jerry can (or whatever they are called). I tell the, Its gonna happen! Chaos.
If It was doable for me then I'd have fully electric as my company car as it's zero BIK for the time being.. or it was last time I looked, but I just do to many miles for it to make sense ATM with charging times. Then I would have something fun again for weekends
My mate absolutely loves his Tesla, he’s had it about a year and said he wishes he had made the change earlier.
The solution for charging is in slot in battery packs. Standardised battery packs and robotic exchanges. Mark this as it will be on the forecourt within 5 years. You pull in, pay and in the same time as it takes to fill with petrol, you get another 400 miles. No need for on street charging.
Not heard about this. How big are the batteries, where are the slots? Which car manufacturers are planning these?
street charging is doomed to fail. especially with the dregs and ****s of society having access to scissors and other cutting devices. mind you, it'd be enjoyable watching them cut through a live cable.
All this bowlocks about Tescos offering free charging... wait until the police have to get involved... that'll put a stop to that...
Surely these battery packs will add extra weight which in turn will lower the range and perhaps seating or boot capacity...
It's no different space wise from having a permanently fixed power pack. Just a much better idea. Rather than wasting time charging batteries you swap your flat batteries for fully charged ones and drive off. The charging station then recharge the unit you've deposited and fit it to someone else's vehicle. You don't own a particular battery set you are just constantly changing them. It's essentially the same model as how you buy LPG for leisure vehicles currently. Current electric vehicles are Betamax. The power pack swap model is VHS.
We’ve had a Mercedes EQC about two months now and have found it pretty easy to live with. It was a bit of a hassle organising the power point installation but it certainly beats charging it with a cable plugged into a socket.
You Rover you. -> Current electric (and MHEV, hybrid, PHEV) vehicles are Betamax. The power pack swap model is VHS. Exactly. That's another reason why I'll be holding off for a while yet. What is crazy is that current (see what I did there) electric vehicles are nil BIK tax! In lots of companies, it's only the executives that can select say a Tesla. They get paid a **** load, and then pay no tax for their car too! Meanwhile lower grade employees with a company car pay ever increasingly tax on the sort of cars they can select. It's crazy and plain wrong
But this Tesla runs in x 12 of these battery packs....... 6:48... BTW its purely to show the 'current' battery set ups... as this guy say $15k on the used market for a battery set up.
