    I’ve got a feeling the reaction would be different if KLD wasn’t here and it was Donald still running the show…

    The furlough scheme is to help business keep staff employed who cannot work due to covid restrictions that are impacting of their business at the time of furlough.

    We are allegedly bidding 1m for a player who will be probably wanting £15k a week and we are taking a bailout of £75k per month to help towards playing staff wages its not smart business its plainly wrong and leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

    i do not care that other clubs are doing it - its simply not right and not what furlough was designed for.

    I'd totally agree, you're right.

    With Donald it would've been seen as another ploy to add to a long list ...

    ... KLD has so far been a much better owner and still has the faith of many people.

    Hopefully that includes the staff who were protected during a terrible period.

    The playing staff are protected under their playing contracts even if the cub went bust they still get paid.

    The scheme was poorly conceived and open to abuse ...

    ... I'm not sure how much 'design' went into it tbh.

    Football debts have to be paid if anyone buys a club out of administration which include players wages. If this does not happen the wages can be met by the government national insurance fund.

    There are plenty of companies up and down the country large and small abusing the scheme.
    And investigations are on going.

    Furloughing employees for months knowing they were getting rid of them anyway for instance.

    There is nothing untoward in what Sunderland are doing although I see your point.
    If Kyril Louise Dreyfus has paid the shortfall up to 100% and staff are keeping jobs then fair do's.

    Take Richard Branson as an example of a twàt ;)

    If we were a Premier League club, with all the revenue that exists in that league then I'd agree with you. As a L1 club with zero revenue for 18 months it's absolutely the right thing to do

    Rules are "If you cannot maintain your workforce because your operations have been affected by coronavirus (COVID-19), you can furlough employees and apply for a grant to cover a portion of their usual monthly wage costs where you record them as being on furlough"

    Football clubs always have a close season so playing operation are not affected. If next season we have to call off matches because of Covid I have no problem claiming furlough for playing staff because operations have been impacted but to be claiming furlough while they are in effect on a planned paid holiday is just wrong.

    I never said I was.
    My point is what Sunderland are doing is above board and KLD is going extra by stumping up wages shortfalls.

    There are a lot worse out there ;)

    If it's a planned holiday then they shouldn't be using furlough but that's one example of a list of loopholes in it.

    The staff will be entitled to retain those holiday hours.

    We worked for a billionaire in France.

    To be paid I had to have a limited company created, in my name, in Portugal and sub-contract my wife as an employee.

    I've no idea how much/little tax was saved for my employer and I doubt he knew either, not much. These people employ accountants who are totally obsessed with tax avoidance and congratulate themselves accordingly depending on the intricacies they need to employ. What SAFC have done was handed to them on a plate tbh and turning down the offer, at a time when no one knew how long this crisis would last, would go against their grain.

    I hate that saying “ it’s above board “ my mate was an MP and he was always saying it to cover all the scams he was legally allowed to have, these were the things he swore he’d have banned if ever they got in power ( took about 3 minutes to forget that when that c unt Blair got in power though.
