Well that’s what happens in that scenario. Think about it bro. The away team (taking a 1-0 lead from their home game) suddenly go 0-1 up. That means the oppo now need to score three times, as two means they go out on away goals. Most teams concede at that point and the game is dead. Remove the away goal rule and in the same scenario, suddenly the home team only need to score once and it’s game on again as one more will draw them level.
I thought they were just ditching the away goal rule and playing ET and pens if the scores were level at FT ?
If the home side take a 1-0 lead in the first leg then take a 1-0 lead away in the second leg that puts the team 2-0 up on aggregate meaning the other side now has to score 3 goals! OR the game goes to extra-time if it is 2-2 at FT So it don't change the scenario really. and if it's still drawn it goes to penalties so not really seeing how that's any fairer because you could hold a game at 1-1 (park the bus), knowing you will never score again but might be a team good at taking penalties.....like the Germans.
I'd rather see the team get 2 goals and bring it to 2-2 and ET, than needing to score 3 goals with the away goal rule. Also pens are exciting. Sudden death, rather than games dying a death when one team suddenly has to score 3 times.
No i mean i dont agree. Loads of great memories and some **** ones from the away goal rule being in play for me personally. Ill wait to see how it goes before completely hating it but i cant say it sounds good on the surface.
It will be the same format at domestic cup games. ET and Pens (albeit over two legs) And that usually does the job. I get the incentive about scoring away goals, but for me I've just seen to many games die on their arse after 20 mins because suddenly one team is needing to score three times.
How many games have we seen, where we've thought, please not extra time. Imagine watching Spurs playing and parking the bus over two legs, only for it to go on for another long suffering 30 mins. Only to then cheat a win because they have the golden boot penalty taker Kane. Yeah right mate. You haven't thought this through, you won't admit your wrong, because its the sort of guy you are.
Anyway, why have two legs, clubs moan about replays in the FA Cup, hence they got stopped. So scrap the two leg rule, let's go the whole fooking hog.
Its probs cos Spurs won two cracking ties on away goals on way to final recently that he's against it
I get the two leg thing, so that no one team gets home advantage. But yeah, luck of the draw. I'd be up for that. Maybe just have the semi over two legs ?
