Think it's **** getting rid of it personally. Like the fact that in 90% of ties there's no such thing as a draw in the second leg so one team always has to go for it. You'll get more teams settling for et and pens now. They should have just binned off the extra time for those rare occasions you get identical scores.
I've read this 3 or 4 times now and it still makes no sense to me. Surely if you need 3 or 4 goals in the second leg, you are still going to need 3 or 4 goals in the second leg, because you lost the first leg by 3 or 4 goals.
If a team wins the first leg at home 1-0 and then takes a 0-1 lead in the 2nd leg. The oppo then suddenly needs to score 3 times or they are going out. It kills games.
Or maybe they played for a 0-0 and conceded a late goal. Point being the same opportunity is offered to both sides. All this will do is bring more dull extra time periods.
I think the opposite will happen personally. You're by nature going to get more draws so you'll get more instances of both teams playing it out settling for ET compared to one team always needing a goal.
Saying that I don't tend to watch European football so I'm not that bothered really. Do think it'll be worse though.
I’d rather they opted to go straight to pens as that makes for a great spectacle and few teams want pens, so they’d be more inclined to play for the win Imo If it’s a decent game though, then ET can be entertaining too.
