The away goals rule in European club football is to be abolished from the start of next season, governing body Uefa has confirmed. The rule, used since 1965, decided drawn two-legged games by favouring the team that scores the most away goals. All ties level on aggregate at the end of the second leg will instead now go to extra time. "It is no longer appropriate for an away goal to carry more weight," said Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin.
good, never liked it it was contradictory, if it was 0-0 then 3-3 , the team who scored the 3 away goals are rewarded for the away goals, but why not punish them for been ****e and not scoring at home.
Much preferred a toss of a coin. Or drawing lots. Drawing lots was good. What the ****'s a lot? Rock, paper, scissors would be a good way anarl.
Have we ever lost a game on away goals? Can't remember if Man U knocked us out the league cup on away goals under Silva, but can't think of another time it may have happened?
Lokeren knocked us out of the Europa League on away goals. They won 1 - 0 at home in the first leg and we won 2 - 1 at the KC in the second.
Some say it encourages away teams so stiffle a game in the hope of winning the 'easier' home leg. I've seen no evidence of that in playoff games where they don't have away goals.
