His attitude has been brilliant since he arrived from Coventry and every time he gets his chance he always takes it. I'd love nothing more than for him to be No.9 in the future.

Good lad. Best produces his best football when he sets himself targets and wants to prove something. If he works hard and delivers the goods, then I'd be more than happy to give him it.

Yep, agree with the points above. If he keeps scoring and working hard then he deserves to get it. I think Ba might want it too though.

And can i just say what a good analogy that is, like being 'married to the club' once you get it and how they are currently 'engaged' <laugh>

Alain Pardeaux will be the vicar who brings Newcastle United and Leon Best together in holy matrimony if he scores 15+ goals this season.

There was an article/interview thing in the Times about him this morning, he pretty much said:

    - He had to deal with a lot of racism when younger.
    - He thanked his mum a lot for everything she's done for him.
    - Talked about how he wanted to keep on proving people wrong.
    - Said he came to SJP in 2003 to watch his mate Jermaine Jenas and said he thought it would be amazing to play here. And now he is, and he says he isn't going to take anything for granted.
    - Also mentioned about the no 9. shirt having to be earned etc

Seemed like a very down to earth guy.

I like Leon Best, he's proved himself worthy of being a regular Premier League striker.

Maybe I hold the #9 shirt in too much esteem, but I really don't consider Best good enough to wear it just yet.

He may well develop into the complete striker and make me eat these words, but I honestly don't think he can improve anymore from what we've seen.

Oba Martins should never have been given the shirt and Andy Carroll really shouldn't have thrown it back in our faces, the ****.

Don't think Best was terrible but he certainly didn't do much of use. Doesn't change my opinion though, if he can bang in 12-15 goals this season and work hard then he can have the shirt.
