DK was not a natural looking footballer was he - even his name sounds wrong! And yes, Keith’s son (! Charlton’s Keith Peacock) was hairier than the Bein man
I met him last October when I was working in Newmarket and he was absolutely class. Really down to earth and happy to chat about his time up here. There's that saying that you shouldn't meet your heroes cos they won't live up to your expectations. There should be one about not meeting your enemies too, as they may not live down to your expectations. I met Michael Owen at the same event and he was an absolute gent. Quite quiet and shy but not what I expected at all.
I have absolutely no idea who Alan Gowling is! Googling. I only get to see Newcastle in London or down on the South coast when we’re in the same flight as Brighton/Southampton etc My SJP days were from ‘88-2000 then life took over.
Was Kitson just before Andy? In the promotion season or the printed season…. I need to remind myself. I have a memory of Kelly scoring in the promotion season under KK against someone in the West Country?! **** me I’m old
McDonald 1972 as a 12 year old. I saw Jimmy Smith score at Roker park a couple of years earlier, but he wasn’t a centre forward.
The second saying I’m not familiar with, but so true. How many times I’ve bumped into historical arch enemies and had a laugh. I’m not an actual superhero but you get my point
Supporting the Toon begins at a very early age for most of us. It's a form of brain washing/torture if you like and I wouldn't have it any other way. I blame my beloved Grandfather for my affliction btw...
First one I saw was Ron “Cassius” McGarry. Can’t remember who against but it was after he had acquired the monicker “Cassius”.
Met him a short while back and had a great 30 minutes chatting about all things Newcastle. A real gent and very humble.
Supermac was before Gowling. McGarry was before everyone mentioned so far. Wait til Jim pops in and mentions Hughie Gallagher.
I doubt it. Some of the guys on here were going to games before I was born. It would have been mid to late 70s. I'm sure he was still playing for us. The only reason he stuck in my head is cos we lived on the corner of Gowling Avenue and Sutherland Avenue and I thought the street was named after him!
I saw a photo of Paul Goddard today as a result of this …. Where has the time gone! I, on the other hand, have de-aged and am sexier than I’ve ever been, it’s some kind of George Clooney gene I have.
Trev is sub 35 years. Unfortunately he spent the 50 years before that as a Dom before he accepted his true role in life.
