I also would be fairly happy signing Adam Armstrong, but as Schad highlighted, he has a really, really unusually high number of shots for his return of goals. It's a fairly good barometer to go on, but scoring 25+ in the Championship doesn't always mean lots of goals in the Prem.
We wouldn't get a suitable replacement for Prowse, plus another quality first team player for £40-50m - Which means there is no advantage to selling him.
And neither does scoring 25+ in the Bundesliga or Serie A. There's no way of knowing. You just have to take a gamble sometimes, and Armstrong is an affordable gamble, over the likes of Toney or Daka, both of whom will cost double. And at 24 years old, even if AA doesn't do as well as we hope, he'd still sell for a decent amount three years down the line.
This is a good point. Even if he was a bit of a flop in the premier league after 2 seasons. You know a few championship clubs will be prepared to pay £8m-£10m for him at age 26 because they know what he is capable of in that league.
This talk of JWP being interested is total bullshit. That said, no player is bigger than the club and sometimes you need to sell a highly rated player just so you can invest in younger players and move forward. So I have no problem in one of Ings, Vesty or JWP being sold providing our recruitment is back on track. And we steer clear of Neco Williams who I can’t see as improving what we have. Semmens has pretty much confirmed on several occasions that all incoming money from transfers will be available for incoming players.
It should be fresh in the memory. But some will forget. It's easy to just assume that incoming transfer fees will be spent well. But that's often not the case. Sure, we have a different board now, but it doesn't mean we wouldn't get burnt again.
Hoedt was bought 6 months before VVD was sold. Ely might still make it. We actually spent the money on Vesty and Armstrong- just depends whether your pint is half full or half empty
No I agree with you. The point I was making though is what Schad’s said before a couple of times: to get the number of goals he scored he had a much higher shots to goal ratio than other strikers with similar amount of goals, which is a little rare/raises an eyebrow. I’m not against it at all, I’m actually for it given the rumoured fee, but we should be cautious with how many we expect him to score for us. In more depressing news, apparently Daka fee is only £23m.
