The UK committed atrocities all over the world in pursuit of Empire. We also instigated the idea of concentration camp in the boer war. We have invaded countries and murdered civilians. The Saudis may be a despicable regime in the eyes of many, but we have done far far worse. They are trying to change albeit slowly.
City just 'found' £100m to buy Kane, mate. In the middle of a pandemic, all clubs posting losses except somehow City, with their fanbase of 37 people. Every kid at my son's school has swapped clubs with alarming regularity - one kid has "supported" Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U in each of the last three seasons (don't get me started on loyalty these days, the lack of it is a very real threat and it'll kill the sport). The only Man City supporting kid has a dad who's lifelong season ticket holder. Kids just don't gravitate towards them, Worse than them is PSG and Al Khalifa, who - with the very commercially limited French Ligue - found £200m to buy Neymar in 2017, then a year later spent another £200m on Mbappe, Paredes and Kehrer. Did they win the CL? Did they ****. He went to court, threw money at FIFA and the case was dismissed. Football is a ****ing state. If PIF did take over Newcastle, they could easily and feasibly spend £300m and not a dickie bird would be said. It's immoral, it's horrible, it's modern football. Maybe Staveley doesn't have access to that money, maybe it's a sustainable project, but I suspect it isn't. Saudi's will want the world to see their financial might. Part owning a Newcastle United with a shoddy stadium and aspirations of 10th isn't on the agenda.
I do bite, I type a raging childish response but before I press enter, I take deep breath, count to ten, have a ponder, delete what I've typed, and type in the rational side to what is my ****ed up brain.
Tends to be a ratio between how recent and how bad. For example, we're a lovely nation because we let anybody in, free healthcare for all. What we did pre-1910 is hidden under period dramas. Saudi, Qatar, every African country, China, most of the "stan's", Malaysia, North Korea, and so on. All rubbish. But these are deep, wide-rooted issues - the focus should be on the issue of money-led corruption within a working men's sport. If your issue is geo-political, football isn't the forum.
Saudi, Qatar, China, Israel - examples of countries that the UK happily trades with. Israel - their government being the biggest group of terrorists going. Horrible country.
