I've been looking at southgate's tiktaks and comments and really I think he has decided to grind through this and did this well in advance. The full backs are playing like no 6s, not going forward but not wide either. Phillip's is running about getting ahead of the ball. Mount and foden are taking no risks either. It just feels like 6 back, take no risks, maybe you 4 up front might get something. It's worked game 1 where croatia got a few half chances but had nothing up front and sterling running behind found space and finally tapped one in after missing 3. Scotland denied england space and made the tactic look very very ordinary. 0-0 was all it deserved but its job done. This side might grind a draw in the last game to ensure its second place imo. The last 16 will be very very cautious as well.
More than that. There was a completely naked streaker earlier, they didn't get the cameras off in time
There's was literally an identical tackle they discussed earlier saying it was just a foul not worth a yellow!
Its funny that Itv have that Ref guy, so far he's agreed with every ref decision. Talk about toeing the line. It was a Yellow imo
Way things are looking who ever finishes 3rd in Spain or England’s group prob won’t go through as most of others are likely to get to 4 points. 4 points sees you through so wales are safe anyway unless some extraordinary results in the other groups
Stupid isn’t it. Catches him top of the foot and half on his ankle. What makes you laugh is commentator saying uefa have told refs to stamp down on those type of tackles? Not sure exactly what that type of tackle is, but surely it’s either a red card in every comp in every game because in the fifa laws it’s a red, or it’s not. You can’t pick a chose what tournament a tackle is a red for and which it isn’t?
The euros have been so expanded it's harder not qualify than to qualify. Even scotland and wales made it Seriously though the groups looked "ok" with one group of death but there are quite a few teams you wonder what's the point. The cops america is even worse with top 4out of group of 5 qualifying for qf. Literally just 2 teams going out. What is the ****ing point? (Insert tv revenue comment here)
So it looks to.me that england will not actually know their fate prior to the game tomorrow. Right now second in the group via a draw look bloody ideal however sequence of events seems to be: Last 16. Group D winners V 2nd in group F (Wembley) (7) Group D 2nd place v 2nd in Group E (Copenhagan) (5) Group D 3rd place once of 3 options. QF: Game 7 will play against winner of game 8 in rome. (right now could be sweden v swizterland for example) (QF4) Game 5 winner will play winner of game 6 in St Petersburg. (very likely france) (QF1) And finally SFs are in london SF1: winner of QF 1 will play italy or belgium Sf2 QF4 winner play netherlands, or wales maybe. .................................. working back then, France v italy or belgium in the SF1. That looks a tough ask for anyone. SF2 is where england want to be. Wales or netherland. To get there they need to be in QF4 v switzerland or sweden or whoever. To get there they need to be in game 7 of last 16 v germany at wembley So to get there we need to win the group. England route to final 1. Beat Czech republic 2. beat germany on pens at home at Wembley 3. Beat a **** QF opponent in Rome. 4. Beat Netherlands or wales in the SF at wembley 5. Take on france, italy or Belgium in the final. Or i completely got it wrong, Lol.
Its clear now that if england should finish second they could end up playing spain in the last 16, but it could be much easier and then the hardship starts. QF = France (probably) and then SF = italy or belgium. then the final will be whoever is on the other side of the draw (germany, netherlands? wales ) If our limit of ambition is the Qfs then by all means draw tomorrow. We will likely get there but we won't play at wembely again. If our ambtion is to win this and play at home then we need to be taking on germany at home in the last 16. (I say germany as france lead the group and final fixures put france v portugal and germany v hungary.)
Wijnaldum on target again for the Netherlands. He's one player who consistently excels for his country.
