We might have the numbers but Mayer, Scott & Samuelsen couldn't get into our squad in L1. There's not much hope that they can in the Championship. All 3 need to go and play games, and I don't think finding them suitors will be too hard. I'm expecting Scott to go to Hearts once Marriott is confirmed. I'd much rather all three went somewhere early and got in a full pre season as I think it's highly unlikely that any will force their way back in Grant's plans. I'm sure Billy will have plenty of L2 suitors as well, so hopefully, he can go somewhere on loan and really kick on after 2 good spells at Halifax. I said on here at the start of summer that I think it'll be a really busy summer and I'm pretty certain of it now too with our early signings. There's a lot of really good lads who won't play as much as they want and deserve to go and get some regular football.
I suspect it will be whether he can accept to take a probable fairly large drop in wages, against coming to a team whereby he has had success with the manager before and that he is likely to get regular game time. Under the current situation if I was him I would sign, but I'm sure his agent with me looking for a better deal somewhere else.
If Marriott doesn’t come to us he’ll go to Luton, who can offer more wages than we can. They’ve lost James Collins to Cardiff so they’ll be on the lookout. Hopefully we can get him signed before they make an approach.
Yeah, I imagine we could offer players more if we wanted to, but because of our tight budget I don’t think we will. They signed Campbell and Onyedinma for what I imagine are bigger figures than we will be paying this season, it stands to reason they’ll be offering more money to attract these players. Lansbury won’t be playing for £5k a week.
Maybe it's just me but I'm not particularly impressed with Luton's recruitment. Campbell looks like a real signing but the rest look pretty average. Jerome will be 35 by the time the season starts and while he'll score goals in L1, the champ is a big ask. Onyedinma's output is hardly impressive. 3 goals and 2 assists in 43 appearances. Wilks got 5 in 18 for us in the Champ & was still heavily criticised! Burke, I've never really been a big fan of. Lansbury is a 'big name' but it's been years since he's done anything. I wouldn't have touched him with a bargepole. I've seen people tipping them for the top 6, but they've lost goals from last year.
