kane is obviously not over rated, you dont get 3 yes three prem golden boots (fun fact, wayne rooney never got a prem golden boot and he played for many prem winner sides) the only other players to have 3 golden boots are shearer and henry it's just not working for him this system, its the manager
imagine singing that god save the queen ****, what cringe, worst anthem in the world honestly, its so uninspiring least the scots and french anthems are about war and pride and inspire you also the english can never ever mock scotland again we are the third worst rated team at the tournament, and your team cant even beat us at home as apparent tournament favourites a motherwell player in defence at wembley
As much as Harry was one of ours, he has no right to walk in in front of Mings who has been excellent. I think he will bring Henderson in. As for Grealish, he is a excellent footballer, but for me, in a tournament like this, he's someone you bring on when you are up in a game. He spends so much time looking to get fouled he doesn't do what he's capable of. If he's fouled 10 times thats 5 minutes or more (total) before a free kick is taken....
We didn't look any better when Grealish and Rashford came on. I can't see Southgate cutting too deep in his selection for the next game.
Grealish would be the first name on the teamsheet for me.He has to be one of our best hopes of doing anything in this tournament.Yes,he's fouled on a regular basis but that's because it's the only way to stop him. It would be footballing suicide to use him in a cameo role.If we were to use him to bring on when we are 'up in a game',then what do we do when we are drawing or losing? England have a wealth of talent but it's not working and we are looking lethargic. How many times did we pass back last-night when the easier option was to pass forward? Scotland were fired up for that game last-night,it was their big game, their chance to play against their biggest and oldest enemy in Football(it's a mystery to me why we didn't treat the fixture with the same passion). If we had put the effort and heart in like they did we'd have wiped the ****ing floor with them!!! Any more abject, lifeless, unimaginative, heartless performances like that and we're out...
The crux of the issue was two defensive midfielders that both played as defensive midfielders. Effectively 6 defensive players (7 if you include the keeper) and 4 attacking players. The balance was totally wrong and the Foden substitution was baffling.
It took me 5 1/2 hours in the pissing rain to get to the game yesterday, which is more effort than some of our players put in. James was the worst player on the pitch, barely a single forward pass all night, didn't get past his man once, utterly hopeless. Shaw, Phillips, Rice and James all devoid of ideas, Kane poor in both games, Sterling good in the first game, but poor last night. The less said about the substitutions, the better. That's one quite poor game and one very poor game so far, I'll not be bothering going to the Czech Republic game. So we'll probably win 5-0.
Typical England performance, the same dross we get every 2 years. promise lots, loads of hype but deliver a master class of negative backward passing. I bet the other nations love playing against us. So predictable….so dull
You could always claim you had a positive Covid test and ring the contact tracing people and get him isolated for 10 days
It was certainly lethargic and poor creativity wise last night, but I’m trying to not let it cloud my judgement of England too much. A derby is a really weird game to play at a tournament like this for us. No-one else will ever face Scotland as fired up as that, so it’s difficult to judge how well they actually can do. It was definitely disappointing and the best teams will find a way past a side like that, but every time we attacked there were 9 players behind the ball, that’s difficult to break through. I’m not sure Grealish was the answer as he hangs onto the ball til the last minute, when actually we needed to ping it around quickly. I don’t understand why Sancho didn’t get on. The most important thing last night was to not lose, so job done. Beat the Czech’s and we top the group and this game will be forgotten. Also better in the long run as we’d avoid Italy, France and Belgium til the final.
It seems to me having reflected on the game, that the players had been told don't lose the game, and that was the frame of mind they went out with. If he had any intention of taking the game to them, then the fullback would have passed the halfway line, whereas they hardly ventured into their half. When Grealish came on, why not take off Phillips not Foden, but he kept the 2 sitting midfielders? Finally, he could have matched them, brought on Maguire and make it a back 3 and get an extra body into midfield and an extra player up front, he didn't. He was hoping to either draw or snatch a 1-0 win from the outset, he bottled it. However, even in 1966 there was a game against Uruguay which was similar, you do get one game in the early rounds that are not the best, let's hope they got that out of their system. Often teams that start well run out of steam, but teams that start slowly come good at the right time.
I agree with some of your post but I think we need to ask ourselves why our players 'weren't' fired up? Arrogance?
