Another thing to consider is that injury recovery at Staplewood should be less restricted by Covid than last season was.
Excellent point. Not being able to use a lot of the equipment really did hinder recoveries and possibly preventing the injuries in the first place.
'Relegation fodder' is indeed a little harsh, but l do think where previously thought l thought we were an 8-12 position team, l do think with Bertrand gone and probably Vesty going, (Ings possibly too), we are more 14-16 material at best. Not just the squad, that needs addressing, RH really needs to improve tactically or get someone in to help him. Teams worked out how to beat us and we had no Plan B. Big improvement needed there.
Far too early to say really. Depends on who leaves and how well any arrivals do. I can still see us selling Ings in the final days when another club gets desperate for a striker and offers us £20-25m. And if that happens we'll be well in the scrap.
The obvious issue here is that our current owner does not appear to be about to stump up any serious financial backing, allowing us to buy players, or at least put in bids with a realistic chance of success. If we can only buy players with proceeds from player sales, then we will either possibly weaken our current squad, before being able to strengthen again, or the proceeds from any sales of 'fringe' players will be so low that we will not be able to attract the type of player we are after. This is not to say that, with a good scouting sytem, Saints can't unearth one or two (or more?) good prospects at a reasonable price, but we do not have massive spending clout, so Ralph needs to work with what he already has, rather than expecting immediate improvements via big money signings. In short, situation normal.
If United are unwilling to meet Atletico's 20mill asking price for Trippier due to age and only having a year left on contract (reported by BBC) then I can't see them meeting the asking price we would set for Ings for the same reasons.
Yup. Take away ings goals and where would we finish last season? I’m sure someone on here has the time to do that?!
My heart doesn't think we are relegation fodder but my head says we had the worst results in the league for the last part of the season. Even once the injurypocalypse had subsided we never found our best form again. If we have to sell our our CB and ST to buy cover in LB and RB then we are eating our own legs to stay alive. Not the way you would want to go about strengthening. What happens this window may be season defining.
Hope he will do better there than Leandre Griffit who see signed from Amiens. I quite like Amiens - France's own Venice of the North.
Seems like DTLW has started a new job at an agents/player management company. So I'm expecting Sessegnon and Antonio (who they represent) to be joining us within the next week or so.
