I think we went for Conte because Conte is Conte, if the chance to try and sign one of the best in the world arises then you gotta try and take it. Not sure it would’ve had much sway on Kane’s decision, you could maybe say Conte would’ve added about 5% more of a chance to make Kane want to stay but I doubt it still would’ve affected his overall decision. I think he wants out, whether he gets what he wants though will be down to Levy/ Paratici.
It's a good question though maybe for a thread. Would you rather keep Kane for another season or sell now and invest the funds rebuilding the squad?
Keep a million percent for me. He’s the one ray of light at this club at the moment. I know we have Paratici now making decisions and hopefully he’ll do us good going forward but based on the last 5 years of purchases, we’ll only waste the Kane money on more dross. I’d honestly rather sell everyone else in the squad - Son included, as much as I love the guy - and try rebuilding from their sales rather than sell Kane.
I am the opposite, if he wants out then get rid asap it's toxic for the rest of the squad. I know Kane is very professional but other players would have the mindset that this is a temporary position and motivation would be at risk.
Sell...once a player wants out we should sell. People said Modric gave his all after his head was turned by Chelsea but he was unable to play in the first few games of the season "cos his head weren't in the right place" and we lost those games miserably. Dier has never been the same since his head was turned by United. Rose was never the same after his head was turned by Walker's move to City. In my view, the same is true of Alderweireld. Kane was not the same in the last 3 matches (when the story broke) and tbh he was out of line airing his views while we still had a chance of CL and EL qualification. I obviously love the memories but have no interest in a where will he move to debate going on all next season if he stays. He may produce a season like Bale's last one with us before he joined Real Madrid so I do get the benefits in him staying. I would take Jesus and £100-£110m from city or Rashford and £50m from United or £150m in cash from either. Would tell Chelsea to **** off
I don’t care about the rest of the squad though to be honest, what have they done over the last couple years other than sit on Kane’s (and Son’s) shoulders? We’re very much unlikely going to produce another player like Kane for another 50+ years.
Levy would never go for Jesus, he'd get crucified. Abraham or Moses are more up his street. ...I'm here all week
That's your team and it will effect any new players as well. I think you are living in a bit of a fools paradise. We will still have most of these players for the coming season at least.
Lol. If I had faith in the hierarchy to utilise the potential Kane money well I wouldn’t mind his departure so much. But knowing we could sell Kane and have to watch so many of these wasters stay is a gut wrencher, more so if we continue our trend of poor signings too. For me, Kane’s the one shining light at this football club at the moment.
A new manger might bring new hope and new momentum to the players. I think many of us would be down after having to play the Jose way.
It was dire under the last year of Poch though. I feel too many are forgetting that. Since around January to his sacking, we had relegation form under him, we hadn’t won an away game in something like 10-12 months. Jose came in and offered next to nothing and further bored the life out of us but there’s a common denominator and that’s 75% of the playing squad. Whilst they remain, we’re pretty much ****ed.
I think you have written them off in your mind. In fact I have seen you do it. Once you have done that you are reluctant to give them another chance. I think some of them can be revitalised under the right management. It happens all the time in fact it's what managers are for in many ways.
If Pochettino or Mourinho can’t get a tune out of them I struggle to see how another manager will have a better chance. There is honestly so much dross at this football club it is almost beyond belief. Conte seemingly got rejected/ rejected us because he wasn’t going to be allowed to make substantial changes.
I think assumptions that Kane is 100% off this summer are wide of the mark. Levy holds all the cards and if the right bid doesn’t come in then Kane stays. The only way he gets out is if he throws his toys out the pram. Kane, realistically, knows his value to us, and is serious about his public image as a top professional man. He as good as said he wouldn’t try and force his way out in the Neville interview and he doesn’t seem the type to row back on comments made in the public eye like that. It would be silly to say it’s 100% not going to happen but I’m maybe 85% sure we get one more year because I don’t see a club coming up with enough money. The sensible thing to do for all parties is to offer him a new contract with a release clause for next summer set at an acceptable price. We’re more likely to get the £100m+ we want next summer than this, so everyone wins. Apart from Kane, but he’s made his bed so should lie in it.
