Flat caps and Zorro masks, bro!

I think he’s Paratici’s choice more so than Levy’s though. Can’t be 100% certain but does sound like Levy may have actually delegated a lot of the football stuff if rumours are to be believed as it sounds like Paratici’s been the driving force behind Fonseca as well as supposedly telling some of the player they ain’t wanted, lol.

I didn’t know much about Fonseca but if you’ve got a spare 8 mins have a butchers at the vid in this post, gives an insight into his style and what we can maybe expect:

Well he managed to get Roma to a respectable 7th in Seri A whereas Spurs only managed to finish a lowly 7th in the PL

Oh, i see what you're getting at now <laugh>

Cheers DH...I hope he surprises us all like but I think it’s a big job on his hands...I think the bigger fish is the Dof...interested to see his vision for us before I turn on him lol

I’ll be backing the new gaffer anyway and I’ll be here to do a RIP thread when he inevitably gets thrown under bus by Levy.

I don’t envy the guy. Poor bloke’s walking into a **** show. I guess in some ways expectations are gonna be so low of him it’ll be hard for him to actually fail that badly but then this is Tottenham and we all know our magical ability to **** up superbly.

As for Paratici, hard to say as I also don’t know much about him either but if reports are anywhere near accurate, it does seem like he’s making himself busy already.

Don’t follow too much Serie A but while yes Fonseca took Roma to 7th last year, I think I’m right in saying that they were well in the race for the top 4 then they got bollocksed by injuries and the EL games came right back around at that time too, which caused a drop off in form as the squad got stretched. He also barely got to play Zainolo, who is a huge talent, during his time at Roma because the kid had two cruciate injuries in as many years, I believe.

The club also changed ownership after his first season, and the new owners clearly didn’t want him from the off, which can’t have made his position easy. I believe he was also left a bit of a **** hand by the previous DoF when he came in, which I think was Monchi (who left before Fonseca arrived, and by all accounts had a shocker of a transfer window in summer 2018, a year before Fonseca got the job).

I’m not saying we shouldn’t take his time at Roma into account, because we clearly should, but he had a very tricky ride of it at that club by all accounts. From watching the Portuguese documentary about him at Shakhtar he seems to study the game intelligently, I recommend it for seeing how he assessed Pep’s City and prepared the squad if nothing else, as he comes as intelligent and tactically aware, and as a coach who can communicate concepts to the players well. He also apparently speaks good English, which I think is important.

While he’s not one of the more recognised names we were hoping for, I’m looking forward to seeing what he and Paratici can do if he’s backed in the transfer market to build the squad how he wants. This will likely be the best set of forwards he’s ever had to work with and if we can make key additions in defence and midfield too then I’ll be excited for the season. A lot depends on the transfer market though.

    Yes and no, IMO.

I believe he will be backed financially, and with the mess we’re in, we’ll be spending some money to ensure he’s given a fair crack.
However, this will come at the expense of losing Kane. For me, this appointment tells us Harry won’t be a Spurs player next year. If Kane wants to win trophies and he needed to see that the club is being ambitious, I don’t think Fonseca is going to cut it for him, sadly.

therefore, “the best set of forwards he’s ever had to work with” isn’t going to be quite as good come the start of the season, as it looks now.

Another 2013 summer transfer window incoming with Kane playing the role of Gareth Bale.

I think Kane will have wanted out regardless of who the new manager would’ve been. Jose’s appointment felt like the last throw of the dice in terms of making Kane actually want to stay. Whether we actually sell him or not is one thing but I think his mind is intent on leaving regardless of if we hire Conte, Fonseca or Pardew.

    None at all.
We should of had a plan drawn up in February when we were at the end of that horrific run of 3 wins in 13 games against Premier league clubs.
But we staggered on til April 19th...then sacked JM with no one guaranteed to take over (unlike when we sacked Jol, or Ramos or Redknapp or Sherwood or Pochettino) just 6 days before a cup final and have since staggered around (like a desperate drunk with pissed stained jeans getting contemptuously turned by every girl he approaches) humiliating ourselves.

So we are now at our 5th or 6th choice who appears to have said yes ...

And I say this as someone who thinks we should give the geezer a fair cracking of the whip before we judge him <laugh>

You are judging him already you miserable SOB (BTW that's an observation not an insult) If he gets the job he is the first choice and surely it's time to stop being seduced by 'big name' managers. There is no guarantee of success who ever you are. There is a long list of big name managers failing in the PL and we have just tried the biggest of them all. Our best success has come with lesser known managers. Spurs is a place to make your name, we don't need to be a refuge for semi retired demi gods.

Perhaps, but I do wonder whether there was still a glimmer of hope of keeping him even after Jose’s departure. - it’s about the only explanation for why we went in for Conte. Was it a last roll of the dice?

But now Levy has finally conceded defeat, even as far as relinquishing control to a DOF to sort the mess out, letting him know there will be funds because Kane’s departure is now inevitable.

On a serious level I think that the bloke is on a hiding to nothing IF he hits a bad run early on.
I hope that whoever we get, they are given time to sort this car crash of a squad out before they are judged...but I have my doubts.

    Completely agree Spurf. <ok>
But at the same time, we’re going for an unknown at the opposite end of the spectrum.

If we aren’t in the market for a “big name”, we should be going for someone like Potter. It just makes far more sense.

anyway, what do I know? <laugh>
I’m just really surprised about who Levy has chosen at not only a critical time for the club, but also a crucial time for him personally. There’s so much toxicity. It’s either going to be a stroke of genius, or things are about to get even worse.
