Can't wait to see all the social media, lockdown lovers tweet and whinge about recklessness and imminent further waves.

I am the most law abiding citizen you are ever likely to see (or endure :) ), but I have reached the end of my tether as well.

I am really struggling with long covid and it really has caused me to pretty much adjust my whole lifestyle to enable me to at least do some of what I could do before I got it. Anyone thinking this covid virus is just flu needs to think again because for some people it can be life changing, and for some poor souls it has been life taking. I had no idea this would be the way things would turn out but I am very pleased and extremely grateful to still be alive.

That being said we have to get on with our lives and manage things the best we can without any national restrictions. There is strong evidence that these lockdowns are causing a huge amount of harm, especially to the poor and those who struggle to manage in normal times. The on-going restrictions are wrecking day to day life for millions of people and it has to stop. Most of the folk I know are careful and sensible and more than capable of living normally while being considerate to others. Let's get on with living and leave it up to each of us to make the decisions on where we go, who we see and what we are comfortable with.

All the best for a complete recovery Kaits.

I'm not at all sure that a total relaxing of restrictions will be possible. The lack of a reliable, comprehensive and accurate test, trace and isolate program hinders that along with poor border controls from day one. The India red listing the latest cockup (trade deal vs health). Rising infections will mean more mutations. I'm not advocating the hard lockdowns but also have doubts about how responsible the populations will be regarding self regulating. Let's hope a worldwide vaccination program will see CV19 virtually eradicated as other deceases have and leave us better able to deal with the next one.

    Many thanks Jabbo. Much appreciated.

The problem with these lockdowns and restrictions is that it not only causes significant damage to vulnerable and poor folk but it also creates a whole new generation of poverty among people who were otherwise just managing to get by. With many other countries either failing or being unable to fight the virus with vaccines and thereby having a higher possibility of new variants developing and with our extremely loose border controls, we are always going to get hit by something at some point. No one can stop it, but with our vaccination roll out we should be able to minimise the effects of whatever comes our way.

We do need to support the NHS with some serious investment in people, equipment and some of those new hospitals we were promised. We need a comprehensive pandemic response unit that is backed up with whatever financial investment it needs to have a fast response to viral and bacterial health threats. We also need to stop making war on the environment and understand that we can't allow the multi-nationals to continue raping the planet or we will always be under threat of some disaster or another.

There will always be idiots who take risks and refuse to consider others, but that shouldn't be used as an excuse to impose restrictions and cause untold damage and suffering the day to day lives of millions of other people. My take on it is that if some folk want to behave like selfish twats, and with most of the population vaccinated, the chances of a serious mutation of the virus is increasingly unlikely.

I'm finally getting offered my vaccine but the only choices I'm getting for a vaccination centre for my second dose are Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight or Bournemouth.
A massive pain especially since I don't drive.

Book it in for one of those places then change it once you have your reference number.

Similar. I couldn't get get anywhere in Hampshire for my second vaccine when I booked a few weeks back. I'll hopefully get it rescheduled in due course, once better choices become available (which they were for my first).

Yep. The worst is very much over in a lot of places, the UK and (most of) Canada included. But it'll only stay over if a concerted effort is made to vaccinate the developing world, because otherwise it's probably a matter of time before COVID begins to drift beyond the protections offered by the current vaccine.

Somehow, I can't see the people of Britain taking too kindly to this delay.

What is the point of the vaccine if we can't have our freedoms? The vulnerable are protected, at a good level, even against this Indian variant. Its taking the ****ing piss now.

Slightly more seriously, they can't force you to do anything. I'm just gonna live my life as normal from now on; they can't tell me how to live my life so **** 'em.

The pandemic is effectively over in my view so I'm cracking on as normal.

I would be more accepting of the delay if they say it's simply to give more time for vaccinations and they guarantee all restrictions lifted no later than 19th July.
