Uhh he's been playing for them for almost 9 months. We've seen more than enough games to understand that Carroll only got so many goals due to our playing style (i.e. long balls and crosses). He ain't getting anywhere near as many of them at Liverpool, so voila, he's struggling.

I know exactly what I think. I don't think he's going to become awful, but I think he's just going to be a fairly average 1 in 3 striker unless he finds a team which suits him perfectly.

By any chance were you involved in the negotiations to take Carroll to Liverpool?

He's had a run in the side, it's now 1 goal since his first two in April.
Since he left us and doesn't have Barton putting crosses on his head, he's a shadow of the player he was for us.

Agreed. He's had a few chances but without being the main man he seems to disappear all to easily in games; and I'm not sure if it's just me, but he just doesn't seem to care as much anymore.

It's a bit early to say he's a flop yet. Liverpool obviously spent that £35 million thinking it will pay off over the next 9/10 years, not immediately.

Hes been playing there for 9 months but how many starts has he had in that time? probably around 10 at most, a lot of his appearances have came from the subs bench.

It sometimes takes players a while to get used to a new club and how they play, put that fact on top of the fact theres already some very good forward in Liverpool's team then naturally its going to make him look bad, does this mean he's suddenly ****? or that he cant perform for Liverpool just because theres not long balls being pumped into the box. no it certainly doesn't.

If it gets to the end of the season and Carroll hasn't sorted himself out then fair enough I would hold my hands up and agree that maybe Liverpool aren't the club for him, but in the current circumstances I think its naive to write him off.

Of course you could be completely spot on but a bit early to tell at the moment.

You can't really just go by statistics alone in this sort of stuff. He hasn't had TOO many starts, but we've all had a chance to watch him play, and I just cannot see where this sudden ability to fire in loads of goals is going to come from. I've seen what he can do when the team plays to his strengths and puts in plenty of crosses and long balls, but Liverpool don't do that and never will.

I never saw Carroll play the kind of football which would be suitable for a side like Liverpool, and I haven't seen it while he's been there either, so it's becoming more and more probable that it simply doesn't exist. We're all essentially assuming that Carroll has an ability which we haven't actually seen yet at Newcastle or Liverpool.

As I said, I don't think he'd be a 'flop' or a failure, I just think he'll turn out to be quite an ordinary striker. Around 10-14 goals, few assists, and that's about it. Good enough for most sides outside the top 4, but not prolific and certainly not worth anywhere near £35mill. We'll see though.

Just seems very odd spending £35m and £80k a week for subs role...........not playing hardly going to boost his confidence.

Let me sum up. Liverpool paid less money for Torres (who was also at the time a young-ish player, and had no PL experience) and expected him to jump straight into the team and score goals; he did.

Carroll counts as a flop for that reason. No-one pays £35m "for the future".

He did well for us when he was playing for us. He wouldn't fit our style of play now so much I think. And look, he's a young lad who has to think about his future, so the money was just too good. I can't blame him for that.

Is he a £35 million pound striker? No, I don't think so - at least not yet. But it is what it is. No point dwelling on could have/should have.

That said I look forward to him bringing take out chicken up to rothbury.

If I had my way(which I obviously don't), I'd take him back in a heartbeat...for a fraction of the 35million of course. Everybody's human imo, money talks, no two ways about it(take a look at man city for instance)..He had a massive offer, either the club or he decided to take it up for the good of everybody involved..And that was that. Not everybody early in their career is going to turn down an offer that massive... That said, he's still a Geordie, victim of his own circumstances at that time, thus, given my way I'd still take him back..
