Is it embarrassing to be a city fan?

    for me ... yes,

To be honest Ashbee giving the finger didn't suprise me what so ever, after the lack of respect given to him (by a minority of fans) I've heard for the last couple of months sickens me. After a true a hero is treated almost like **** and the FEATS he has achieved for this club seems almost forgotton. I recall some fans yesterday saying "he's f**king ****, what a waste of space" which hurts me greatly. It seems like i'm one of few who seem to stick up for Ash. Moreover it seems to me that even Cliff Byrne at scunny gets more respect than ash. Possibly the only person to replace Judda Whittle's number 4 shirt

To me he is regarded as a hero and will never be forgotton. Just feels that some City fans don't honour his excellence and achievements for the club.

your not alone, i agree...not with him giving the finger if he did(which was probably aimed at some burberry chav, giving it loads rather then all the fans), but just the general tripe that was written about him in the week..
there was an article in the fanzine yesterday, which summed my feelings up perfectly..
"you can bet your boots that had ashbee skippered the same side through all 4 divisions to reach the pinnacle of the english game, with a more fashionable club, a formal recognition would have arrived, achieveing such at an east yorkshire outpost, continually snubbed on a national scale, well it comes as no surprise at all"
it would have been good for him to stay on the pitch afterwards, but he had just a lost a game in a bid to avoid relegation..if he had stayed out on the pitch, waving and smiling, id have been furious as a preston fan..

Pity that he didn't have the class or gratitude to thank the fans who had supported him for the last 9 years. Ash let himself down big style and has soured his memory with a lot of us.

I wasn't there yesterday so can't really comment only heard second hand what went on..

according to our very own OLM Ash is due to appear in an interview soon talking about the club & it may tarnish his reputation.. I'm waiting for this.. maybe there's more to it..

In the meantime, I feel sad too that one of my heros and inspirations as a footballer (poor standard myself but whatever) has been involved in these exchanges with the east stand.. all he had to do was walk over and applaud them..

I know deep down he loves the club..

If he reads this.. don't go and say things you'll regret Ash, if there are individuals you aren't happy with tell it like it is but don't slag off the supporters, yes, there are some dicks at the KC but 99% of us admire and respect what you gave for the club. Remember that.

It's not the national recognition I'm bothered about, it's recognition he deserves from the fans of Hull City; a club he served for 9 years as captain, winning three promotions, and taking us from the very bottom to the very top. I was embarrassed to be a Hull City fan yesterday, is that how we treat and welcome back a hero? 'Ashbee Ashbee what's the score?' made me sick to my stomach. Morons. If he played for Man City, or Newcastle, and any other club in the land he would rightly be recognised for everything he has achieved - and at Hull City it seems it is all forgotten about in 90 minutes. Embarrassing. There wasn't even a banner yesterday. I for one don't blame him for sticking a finger up at the East Stand yesterday, can you blame him? If you had been booed and abused eveytime you touched the ball, would you have stuck around and waved at the end? Abit of respect please people, I think the least he deserves is that.

Ashbee has been here long enough to know that our support from day one of his career is as good as any in the country. He was here long enough to remember the lower league days and the travelling support that followed the tigers around. You cannot just generalise all of us with a few fans.

I for one hope he makes a statement eventually as at the moment the silence is deafening. When he looks back he may regret not doing this right. The fans is the club not the other way round.

The club is followed by people who use what cash they have got to support the team they love through thick and thin. Yes we can be a tetchy lot but no other fans in the country had to put up with decades of ****.

He does owe us an explanation. We do Revere the bloke and he should bloody well know it. We all have hard times in our lives and have to come through it.

I was embarrassed yesterday. I really was. It doesn't mean I don't love the club any less, or support them with less desire and enthusiasm. Just yesterday, I thought Ash's reception was poor, and I felt a little ashamed to associate myself with the other fans of Hull City.

In total agreement. Like some other people have said, if it was a Newcastle or Liverpool legend who had captained the club to unpresidented success, they would have been welcomed like a God. Some supporters really do make me sick, but then again, they'll have only been coming to the KC since the glory days of the Premiership

Listen mate, a hero returns, we give him the respect and thanks he deserves. The game kicks off.The game ends. In between he abuses us lot. flicks the finger then runs off the pitch without a wave or applause. Crap way to end a distinguished career at a club who worshipped him. Shame. Hero to Zero in 90 mins.

Absolutely spot on. He should have recieved a massive welcome, and he barely got anything... bar the ironic boos and chants. Banter is all good and well, but it went beyond that. 'Ashbee Ashbee what's the score?' is just not banter I'm afraid to say, it's sad and pathetic.

He was an opposition player yesterday, but he should have got the fanfare, the banners, the chanting of his name. And he got nothing. It feels like everything he ever did has been forgotten about already. There is no room sentiment maybe, but I don't really think this statement applies to Ian Ashbee. He isn't you're typical football player, he wasn't your typical Hull City captain - his success and achievements are unrivaled in the clubs history, and in English football history. So lets not be so blasé when we talk of Ian Ashbee, he was a brilliant servant for Hull City, and I for one will never ever forget what he has done for us.

Of course he would have acted that way - 9 years at the club, 4 promotions, 2 career threatening injuries (which he came back from) and he takes that kind of abuse from a section of the 'fans'. Not having it, disgraceful. We owe him alot and to unwelcome him like we did yesterday was unforgiveable

if people are going to forget 9 years of commitment and history making because he didnt wave at them, it says more about them then him...if he wasnt in a bad mood after losing a football game, he wouldnt have achieved half of what he has done..

Personally i think the move was good for ian ashbee, and good for the club..

watching him yesterday if it had been the first game i had seen if someone had pointed out ash and said would you bring him to Hull City and give him £20,000 a week i would have said no chance..

    Hull Citys best captain ever.....

but time stands still for no one.....

ashbee is part of our past.....now lets got on with looking towards the future....

I believe we have a good manager in Nigel Pearson..a good backroom staff...and with Adam pearson and the Allams... and a decent team that will improve and be built on

    GOOD TIMES FOR HULL CITY...

ps.... i didnt see anyone NOT clapping ash when he came out onto the pitch.....BUT once the whistle went to start the game ian ashbee was a Preston player and he was trying to help Preston beat Hull City....i support HULL CITY not preston.......so chants of you fat ******* and ashbee ashbee whats the score are to be expected......I am sure ashbee would have been expecting it and he also gave some back...its something that players of ALL teams expect at times.....

    I'm sorry, I don't get this.

I was not embarrassed at all. It's called banter. The east stand were chanting "You fat bastard" to Deano when he had the Aberdeen shirt on in the second half of his testimonial. It not a lack of disrespect, it's banter. He gave some stick back, and we all got on with it. No one cares if Ash gave the east stand the bird as long as it was banter. It probably would be quite funny as long as he didn't mean it.

History will look kindly on Ash. He is a legend, that can never be doubted. What he's achieved with City will probably be never repeated. He will always have the respect of the Tigers' faithful.

But yesterday, we're not talking about him having a 10 minute tearful farewell in front of E1, but a few seconds to stand in the centre circle and a quick clap to the people who have cheered him on and supported him for 9 years was too much to ask? He was down that tunnel like there was someone after him.

Maybe things have turned sour between him and the Pearson twins - but on Saturday afternoon, he has never been given less that 100% and frankly the fans deserved better.

I'll always remember the legend Ash was for us, but today - I am annoyed. And definitely not embarrassed to be a City fan.

Have you only just relaised how poor Hull City fans are? Ive been goin for years, boothferry was full of racist horrible Hull folk and the KC pretty much the same except in balance of capacity. Im from Hull, but the fans are drowny, down, depressive sorts the majority of the time. It was disgusting the reception for Ash to a certian extent, we all knew or should of that as soon as the whistle blew for kick off there was no more sentiment he chose to go. I love him all the same though, great guy to talk to and a fantastic sportsman. We have put up with crap for decades fully agree with that comment, so on the flip side we have taken a little arrogance with that. Anyways great 3 points lets keep pushing!

    Dear Full of S##T,

When you describe me my family and mates as racist because we went to boothferry park. you are speaking for yourself.
When you suggest that my Children who now go to the KC are the same you speak for yourself.
When you suggest that my now departed relatives are the same you speak for yourself.

Mad topic. He got his clap when his name was read out.

After the game started, what do you expect us to do? Start singing his name despite the game being another must win game and the need to support the current crop of Tigers? I don't think anyone in the East got upset about the gestures he made towards us but it seems he is a bit insecure about his weight. It was meant to be banter but he has probably thought he is something he is not. Legends don't spit their dummy out and hand in transfer requests. He was still in the team and he would of been offered a contract at the end of the season most likely. He isn't a legend in my eyes, just someone who did alot for us and have alot of respect for.

Shame he doesn't have the same respect for us reviving his career 2 times and giving a poor player the chance to play in the Premier League.

Ash is and always will be a City legend, him being pissed off yesterday doesn't affect that. He might even go into a bitter rant shortly, which will tarnish his departure further, but he'll still remain a City legend.

I've never been embarrassed to be a City fan, I'm not about to start now.
