Why does anyone rate Shola?

Im sorry but all the nostalgia aside hes shocking, I have no sympathy for him being criticized as im sure the wades of cash he collects soften the blow!! He is bottom 3 standard!

 

True, we've also had a lot better than Leon Best and Ba so shall we stop talking about them playing well too? I could see where you were coming from if people were going up to Shola and telling him he is ****, but in what way would us ceasing to discuss his **** performances be giving him a break? Every time a Shola discussion starts everybody agrees that he is crap now but is a great guy and a pro in training. There's nothing wrong with discussing **** or good players, thats the whole point of a football forum.

 

Shola is the perfect professional in all honesty. Keeps out of trouble, always early to training aswell apparently, genuine nice guy and hes never moaned or held a grudge when hes not been playing. Id be gutted if he left.

 

i really dont get most of you, you are all talking like hes played every game for us this season.. we have had 9 competitive games.. hes started 3 and you are all going on like hes ruining our team.

Im probably going to cause offence by this but a hell of alot of you are very fickle... Ba is absolute dog ****e... oh he bags a hat trick.. omfg hes the greatest striker we have... every ****er hated best... until he had one little good run then all of a sudden hes an amazing striker.. honestly get real.

Tino Asprilla.. i loved the fella like most on here... he scored less than 10 league goals in 3 seasons for us but hes seen as a legend? go figure.:S

 

I'm not saying he's been poor this season..I'm saying he's been terrible for years. No not just terrible..how about terribly awful? Yeah that'll do. Your head is wrapped in nostalgia and you're eyes are blinded by it. Demba is scoring goals. How is he dog ****?

Edit: As Smudger said, I don't personally give two ****s and a **** about his personality. Or his training ability. He's **** at football, how about Pardew signs me? I'll play upfront and last at the club my entire career scoring less that 50 goals in 200 apps. Would I be a legend?

 

Nobody thinks Ba and Best are amazing, but theyre playing well at the minute so are deserved of attention. Shola is playing **** at the minute so is also deserved of attention. Nor is anybody judging Shola entirely on his performances this season; he has shown no improvement on the frustrating player he was last season so what else can anybody go on? What do you expect people to think?: "Well, he was slow and frustrating last season, he lacked passing vision, fell over regularly and showed little ability to blend in with the play of others.. and so far this season he has been exactly the same every time he has played but it's not fair to judge him because he's only started 3, he is likely to improve soon." That would be silly.

 

No one is disputing the fact that Shola is loyal, and a good guy. He's just **** at football, what's your problem with that? We judge Ba and Best to be good as their goals to games ratio isnt anywhere near as pathetic as Shola's.

 

I just think it is very very silly to point the finger at someone who has played very little so far this season.

especially when we have had one of the best starts we have had in a very very long time, everything is going right for us, yet we are whining about shola like he cost us something this season.

 

Strikers win over fans by scoring goals its what they live and die by thats football, its not fickle!! And Ba is not ****e Ba has probably played the same amount as Ameobi to say he is ****e is actually invalidating your own argument of giving the player time!!

Ameobi on the other hand is past it, has a poorer work ethic and hardly is prolific, I dont trust him to score if hes one-one... Your blinded by the fact he has been here 10 years!

 

We arent talking about this season, we're talking about the last few years.

sholas **** wish we'd sold him years ago what i can't understand is the amount of managers we've had since he broke into the first team and not one of them have seen what we see

 

Shola's never scored more than 11 in an entire season.

 

wouldnt it be best to compare goals to games when Ba and Best have played for us as long as shola has?

i have no problem with peoples opinions on shola.. its just that it seems over the top criticism... people are always yapping on about him.. and it gets tiresome

 

People just don't want to see him playing ahead of others anymore because he is poor and we have better options. He will cost us something if he continues to get starts ahead of Ba and Best who are better than him.

No idea why it is relevent how good he was 5+ years ago when we are discussing our prospects for this season.

 

He was an easy crowd pleaser, or he used to be. He used to get clapped on and off. Now he doesn't, he got booed the last match he played right? By the Toon fans that is.

 

No i didnt.. i compared Ba and lovenkrands start to the season with that of sholas... what had ba done before he scored the hat trick?..

But he isn't starting ahead of people, he's providing backup, therefore comparing his stats as an injury ravaged 30 year old to those of 23-24 year old starting players is vastly irrelevant. At that age Shola was behind overpaid, overpriced lumps and still got goals when required, Ba and Best are starters in a completely different Newcastle United.

At the end of the day, what are we accomplishing by saying he's ****? As I said earlier he's backup, and better backup even now than a lot of midtable Premiership clubs have. And thats how I rate him.



Now Danny Guthrie, no excuses of age or injury, why can anyone rate him...

This is what I hate. Guthrie's twice the player Shola is and yet Shola is "good backup" and Guthrie is branded ****e and useless?
