Yes - there’s very little communication in that back 4 - I thought friendlies before a major competition was meant for the manager and the team to gel, tweak a few things and get them used to playing together. I feel very few of this 11 are going to be in the starting lineup for the first match - so what’s the point? I get the impression that Southgate already knows his starting 11 and nothing (bar injury) is going to change his mind ….. so why bother?
I'd he worried if he didn't know his preferred starting eleven a week before the first game to be fair.
Basically praising James for his interceptions, pressing, getting into good positions and all round play.
I’m very glass half full, but I am feeling that the better he plays the less likely he is to be selected, because this is England logic.
England have given up a lot of chances. But it’s really difficult to judge anything about England from these two friendlies.
Even harder than usual this time round too as some of the squad aren't even available yet are they? Or weren't for the first one at least.
Yeah exactly, it’s likely to be a very different team that starts the first game. The Man City, Utd and Chelsea lot weren’t available for the first one. They have since joined up with England though so presumably were available tonight, but being saved for the first game. Except Shaw who has obviously played tonight. Wonder if that means Chilwell is the first choice LB. JWP subbed off. Southgate has probably already decided who is replacing TAA. But if not, JWP just cemented why he should be the replacement.
