Hey! I’ve just noticed that Liz ‘Surgical’ Truss is not only Secretary of State for International Trade but also Minister for Women and Equalities (sic). I wonder which job she spends more time on? Quiz time! Tick all that apply! A) Lovely Liz is so incredibly clever that she needs two jobs to keep her occupied. She might get another one now she’s finished cutting and pasting the terms of EU trade deals with third countries into ‘our’ deals. B) The government really doesn’t think that ‘women and equalities’ is worth the attention of a whole person, even if that person is Liz Truss C) There is such a dearth of talent amongst the 364 Tory MPs that a few have to double up to stretch the intelligence round the jobs. The presence of Gavin Williamson, Robert Generic, Dominic Raab and Matt ‘Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire’ Handjob in the cabinet is a bit of a clue that this is a losing battle. Surgical’s most telling comment on the ‘women and equalities’ portfolio since her appointment was that kids at her school in Leeds in the 1980s didn’t learn to read or write because too much time was spent discussion racism and sexism. She said that in a speech but the section was ‘redacted’ when it was published. Because it wasn’t true. Just to see off the ‘usual suspects’ Labour’s front bench is just as stupid, and I don’t even know their names. To plagiarise Churchill, an empty cab drew up and Kier Starmer got out.
There are plenty of talented Tory MPs. It's just that none of them are in the government because they aren't Brexity enough. Churchill's jibe was directed at Clement Atlee, was it not? One of Britain's greatest Prime Ministers.
This book is rightly going to get quite a bit of attention:- “You feel as though you are in Pakistan” Muslim author claims multiculturalism has gone wrong A Muslim author and former advisor to successive Labour governments has unearthed the extent to which multiculturalism in Britain has failed in a new study to be released next week. Ed Husain, an ex-advisor to Tony Blair has penned his experience of visiting a number of mosques across Britain in his book Among The Mosques: A Journey Across Muslim Britain, in which he expresses concerns that some areas of the UK such as Bolton, Blackburn and Bradford are like a “different universe” compared to the rest of the country. In a comprehensive exploration of the mosques and surrounding areas, including interviews with the local Muslim community, taxi drivers, councillors and white Brits, Mr Husain reports that the hardline, fundamentalist interpretation of Islam is on the rise in British mosques and Muslim communities are separating themselves from the rest of British society, detached from British values and culture. White Brits spoke about “no-go areas” in parts of UK cities, and insisted that councils would threaten Brits with eviction for flying the English flag being as they regard it as “racist”. Husain himself said: “Walk around parts of Walthamstow or Tower Hamlets, the physical walls may not be there but you feel as though you are in parts of Pakistan, India or Bangladesh.” “Multiculturalism was a noble aim that has gone wrong,” Husain explained. The author described visiting what he referred to as ordinary-looking shops in Muslim areas, only to find literature denouncing gender equality, listing several restrictions for women including where they are allowed to pray and how much of themselves they can show in public once they hit puberty. Upon his visit to Dewsbury, a cleric told Husain that “there can be no discussion of there being women in the mosque”, and Husain describes arriving in the town as “though he is in a different country and century”. In Birmingham, Husain was told by two recent immigrants from Saudi Arabia that they refused to “change their religion to suit Britain” with one adding: “I have no government. We are waiting for our government of the sharia to return again, headed by a caliph.” The author himself had flirted with fundamental Islam as a teenager. He admitted being attracted to the ultra-orthodox version of Islam that he was introduced to at college in Tower Hamlets and consequently at the local mosque, despite warnings from his parents. He confessed to rebelling against his parents and travelling Britain, deepening his connections with Islamic extremists before coming to his senses. He subsequently co-founded the counter-extremism think tank Quilliam as well advising on various counter-terrorism boards and being appointed to groups such as the Council on Foreign Relations in New York and the Freedom of Religion or Belief Advisory Group of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Husain, now a professor at Georgetown University will soon depart for the United States but insists Britain must address the segregation of communities and demise of multiculturalism head on. “We have got to get this thing right,” he warns. “We can’t keep turning away from it.”
Joe Biden blunders yet again with bizarre claim he has been US President 'for 15 months' US PRESIDENT Joe Biden has bizarrely claimed that he has been in charge of the country for 15 months - instead of five - in the latest gaffe from the American leader.
The man is actually getting stuff done. Yesterday's agreement at the G7 on the taxation of Tech giants is a major step forward. More so if Sunak hadn't watered it down.
It’s funny when someone posts a joke about certain pin up boys the usual suspects run around to defend them. Get over it Stroller Biden has made yet another stupid comment and all your defending won’t take away the fact that yet again he has made himself look stupid.
Agree, although anything much more than the 15% minimum would probably have not got past G20. It may be a struggle as it is.
Interesting week ahead regarding EU/UK relations. The NI protocol was always going to be the EU's joker to play. They will want us to sign up to an agreement and be more aligned to them. Hopefully Frost will tell them where to go. I hear both the French and Germans will try a few tricks re tariffs to force us to sign. We need to stay strong otherwise this could end up being an unforgivible sell-out.
Dirty foreigners, expecting us to abide by an arrangement that we negotiated and freely signed up to.
If the arrangement is not working, a pragmatic approach is needed to fix it. please log in to view this image
Sadly Goldie you used the word 'pragmatic' when referring to the EU... that ain't going to happen. The EU are just using NI to make things difficult for us. They know it's easy to use the trust a trader scheme. They are just being tw2ts.
