Things like we build a new stadium whereas the Man U owners let their’s rot? But in truth for a club trying to catch up the only way for the owners to gain is to increase the value as there is no way to just pocket dividends while you are not in the top 6.
Some say that Levy never wanted Conte and it was all a move to force PSG to approach him so Spurs could get Poch back.
A new stadium had to be built, that wasn’t a show of ambition or anything to me. Not saying it’s a bad thing, just saying I don’t see any evidence that ENIC care more than other owners
In terms of the stadium, the owners very easily could have plonked down an identikit bowl that came from the same catalogue as a large chunk of the stadiums from the last three World Cups seem to have come from and called it a day, but they didn't In comparison look at the Taxpayers Arena, which is a show of how little The Pornographers care about their latest blag because it lacks soul, atmosphere, decent sight lines or anything else, which were all swallowed up by the amount of black ink needed to redact the official paperwork
If Arsenal had gone for a multi purpose stadium when they built theirs then they would already have an NFL franchise and about twice as much income as us and we would have been forced into construction of something like the Riverside.
Of course you can. Mike ashleys been doing very well from newcastle even though they are not doing anywhere remotely well.
Mike Ashley is an example of the sort of dodgy character that I wouldn't want at Spurs but I'm pretty sure he hasn't taken a dividend.
There are a hundred and one ways to take money out of a club without awarding yourself a dividend though.
Well ENIC don't do that so how is it relevant to Spurs? He probably sells them sports equipment too but again that is not relevant.
I'm not entirely sure what to think or feel at the moment. Levy talks about rediscovering the club's "DNA"...but what is that DNA, anymore? Does he even know? The first chunk of the ENIC era, that DNA was pretty clear and obvious. We were the 'plucky underdogs' of English football; promoting youth, signing shrewd and low, selling smart and high, chipping away at the stranglehold Sky's darlings had over the game. And we did it well. From BMJ's first season to Poch's last, we finished in the top 6 twelve out of fifteen seasons, playing exciting, entertaining football in thirteen of them. We developed the likes of Ledley, Jenas, Lennon, Walker, Bale, Modric, Rose and Kane. We broke records. We killed giants. Now what are we? Who are we? No sane person can walk into a state of the art stadium commanding the highest ticket fees in modern football and think 'here play the plucky underdogs of the wealthiest league in the world'. We aren't the plucky underdogs anymore. But neither are we the oil-money, cartel-run oligarchies of City and Chelsea. Not are we the old-money aristocracy of United and Liverpool. So we're stuck. Because Levy doesn't seem to know how to bridge the gap between the two. Take football out of the equation, he'd bridge it overnight. But put him on a spot and ask him to bridge it with a revenue model that requires on-pitch success, and unless he stumbles into the solution, he'd be chasing his own tail until sunset.
Levy does this kind of thing every season around season ticket renewal time. Hes knows theres enough mugs to buy his gobbldigoop
It's worse than that. The football team isn't ENIC's priority. They're not going to invest enough money to challenge City or Chelsea, so there's zero point in doing anything more than 'just enough' to string along sufficient mug punters to pay the top ticket prices in football, to allow them to get on with what they are actually committed to doing in the next 5-10 years... 1. getting an NFL franchise; 2. developing all of the land around the stadium that they've bought with money 'diverted' from the football club over the last 20 years. 3. increasing the football club's commercial income and restricting the football spend, to enable them to afford to do 1. and 2. As PNP pointed out a few pages back, despite our income, we have the wage spend of Watford...****ing Watford! ENIC aren't taking the money out of 'the business' as a whole, but right now, they're taking football money away from the pitch and they're sure taking the piss out of the fans. Never were Keithy's words more poignant...
I think that planning permission for the stadium was only given because of all the associated works included in the application.
There's a lot more than that stuff being developed in the name of THFC... I'm not against it happening, but why can't ENIC recapitalise the club to fund non-football matters? They don't want to and unless or until they do, every penny they spend on non-football matters is directly at the expense of talent in the football club - be it DoF, manager or players.
Does it really need to be explained to our supporters that shooting the messenger, in this case Alasdair Gold, makes them look like a bunch of ****ing morons? Apparently it does, since WindyCOYS is taking a break from Twitter for the exact same reason
I’m not condoning him being abused on Twitter but he basically said the deal for Conte was done. When you say things like that then obviously people are going to be annoyed, especially as he’s usually quite accurate
Plenty of others said similar, Fabrizio Romano springs to mind, yet he's not getting dogpiled Can't we all agree to just dogpile Duncan Castles every time, since he's a complete shyster?
