Anyone else a bit baffled by the Nyland "saga"? I'm not sure I understand why the club are apparently so keen to wait for him to decide he can't find a better offer.

He's 30, and not clearly better than McGovern. Villa fans were happy to see him leave, and it seems like there's little chance that he develops into a proper Premier League goalkeeper. So why keep him?

Even if we don't go for Gunn, I can't help but feel there's better, relatively inexpensive options available than Nyland.

I agree it’s a risk for him, but he’s a risk taker (he joined us for starters!)

If Arsenal continue their decline we will look back and think he should have gone for Leicester or Tottenham etc.

But equally if they do achieve a club overhaul he could be joining at exactly the right time - let’s face it by English standards they’re a bit of a sleeping giant right now. If he can help spur (bad choice of word) them back to the top four he could have ended up making the leap to a Champions League club without the stepping stone of upper-mid table Premier League.

Equally he could join, the club continues to be fractured and mismanaged, they hang in around 8th-12th and he gets pissed off and ends up with a disappointing few years before ending his career playing for Seville.

    No idea.

The only thing I’d say is mu brother in law is a Villa fan and he said Nyland was popular as a backup keeper (relative isn’t it) and always performed well when he had to step in. They weren’t bothered when he left, but only because he was backup - they weren’t delighted he left either.

I cannot believe he is all that expensive and for someone who is happy to be second fiddle he is obviously of a superior quality than many backups - and Krul has had injury problems, plus how many Premier League campaigns have been ruined by main goalkeeper injuries for us...? I count at least two...

Mirror reporting Villa have agreed a deal for Buendia, to complete within 72 hours.

Can't see that myself with Buendia away, and I can't believe he wouldn't want to hold out for Arsenal.

I agree Rick Buendia is our star player that can change games with a clever pass or goal.

If he wants to leave and get a big payday at Villa then we can't stand in his way , the money will come in handy too.

It will seem very strange with him playing for AV next season against us. He will be very hard to replace: are there replacements in the frame? If so, do they look like they could do as good a job as Buendia?

Yes, Emi deserves his big money move and I certainly don't begrudge him that, but from a City perspective it now all depends on who SW brings in to fill the gap Emi and perhaps Max and Todd as well. I'm hopeful, but not confident that the rumoured players we've been linked with will allow us to survive in the PL. I hope to be surprised though.

To me, that makes more sense from Emi's point of view than a move to Arsenal. He's being tasked to fill a Grealish-sized hole in an otherwise well-balanced team. Ollie Watkins will be rubbing his hands at the prospect.

Pretty sure that Max Tod & Emi were told that if they play this season and get us promoted then the club won't stand in their way if a move materialises .

I'm expecting Aarons to go but hopefully Cantwell stays as he's a local kid .

A few days ago Arsenal were linked with Emi and Anguissa from Fulham, and I was looking forward to seeing them play together. Now Emi's going to Aston Flucking Villa. <doh>

This is so depressing. If we hadn't gone up, yes, perhaps sell him to Villa. But this is one of the many teams we should be aiming to finish ahead of next season, not crawling in front of and accepting they are better and bigger than us.

They're not better and bigger, they just have more money to throw around and it's money that makes football go around

Yes, you're right, money talks. But then make the nouveau-riche wannabes pay through the nose and cough up a lot more than 35m.

I hope the club has something up their sleeve because there are going to be some very unhappy supporters about this. They'd certainly accept him going to Atletico, grudgingly accept him going to Arsenal, but to Villa? They should be our rivals, not a club we accept are so far ahead of us that we can't compete with them.

I know this an emotional response in the heat of the moment, but I feel we may as well just put up the white flag and say that we're going down again. Perhaps we'll hit the dizzy heights of 22 points this time instead of 21.
