I think it’s the “bravery” that pisses a lot of fans off. For us, that tends to be an extra few mill here and there on a player who we end up pulling the plug on, leaving us with our second choice. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve done some good business over the years. Lloris, Alderwiereld, Vertonghen etc at decent prices. But at the same time there’s plenty of Sissoko’s. - Players that everyone had felt were either not right from the outset, panic buys, or that we’d never heard of. I’ll never forget £30m on Sissoko, which at the time was a big fee for someone so average. Then there’s been the N’jie’s and the N’Koudou’s we’ve signed, and the Grealish’s and Tielemens we’ve let pass us by. For all of the decent signings we find, we seem to massively shoot ourselves in the foot with what appear to be odd signings from the outset, which many fans see coming and can’t understand why. - often these “odd” ones are at a similar time to exciting options which we are also rumoured to be interested in. Guess which ones we end up buying?
Yeah can’t lie mate we’ve had a really good time so far, massively gutted about Vegas but this has been a great alternative. Weather’s obviously makes it that bit better too, absolutely roasting down here.
Firstly, it doesn't. You sold Coutinho for a ridiculous amount of money and it dropped your net spend like a stone after years of it being vastly different. We went out and spent £100m-odd on two midfielders after not investing at all for a while and it levelled things up, as fees always increase. Secondly and most importantly, you're not including the most relevant bit of spending, which is wages. Going from the last report that I'm aware of, yours was £264m to our £148m. Ours is closer to Watford than it is to you. Teams like Leicester and Bournemouth have been spending in excess of their revenue on wages in an attempt to keep up. It's nuts.
To be honest I was briefly taken in by the thought of Conte but then Mrs Conn slapped me back to reality asking where the money was coming from , certainly not from the sale of any of our players other than Harry Kane and would Enic go against type and open up the coffers , I have mostly been a Levy supporter over the years but you have to ask would Levy have sacked Levy by now and the answer is a resounding yes My hope is we get either Ten Hag or Potter and for God sake not Martinez It was a pleasure to see Poch build a team that wanted to play for my club and a manager that enjoyed being part of the club and if need be I want that again
No, thanks. I think he's done a good job with Fulham in difficult circumstances, but he's not ready for something like this yet.
He had done very well with club up until about 3 years ago and now gone and **** the bed. As for personal profit, i think hes currently the premier leagues best paid chairman isnt he? At only the 6th richest club and certainly not as successful as a lot of clubs (trophy wise)
The thing is that tweet manages to both be right and completely miss the point at the same time The exact same thing could have been said a few weeks go when it was ten Hag or Potter being reported as our leading candidate as neither were our first choice due to Nagelsmann being our first choice - but nobody mentioned that little detail at the time because it wasn't the time to stoke rage clicks for the sake of Twitter clout which, last time I checked, is worth less than the Cumrocket crypto that Elon Musk is currently shilling ...yes, you read that correctly, the billionaire manchild is shilling a cryptocurrency named Cumrocket
Bit of a false equivalence, though. City's is Khaldoon Al Mubarak, who gets paid in a very large number of other ways, for example. Man Utd's are the Glazers, who have taken out hundreds of millions, possibly up to a billion by some estimates and they can't even fix the roof.
Tbf I'm sure you could sell son or kane for that sort of money and historically you could have probably got a great sum for alli and eriksen. Hell even dier was going to be a 45m player to United. True Liverpool spend a lot more on wages but that's cause you have spent a lot of money on building a new stadium ( short/medium/long term goals). One thing i have always thought was you should try to take advantage a bit more when you have had your best manager and squad in donkeys. It will be interesting to see if you hit the same heights, especially trying to go through a more sensible rebuild process. You are at an awkward crossroads and need to commit to a plan but unfortunately as a club grows and expectations rise because of how well you were doing and with more Fairweather fans, the discontent will rise and be more visible. Plus levy needs to set the expectations right not keep giving out mixed messages
The stadium's got nothing to do with anything. They outspent us on wages for bloody decades before we even started plans for the new stadium. There are a bunch of teams that have outspent us for a long time and some of them will continue to do so in the future. We can't match it without doing a Leeds/Pompey, so that's not a viable tactic. We shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near them, judging on finances alone, yet we're heavily criticised for getting close, for some reason. We're not Liverpool or Utd, who benefit from endless propaganda and we're not backed by murderous dictators, so we need to do things differently. Sometimes this is not going to work.
Think that's a bit misleading. Glaziers are more like joe Lewis, Woodward would be more like levy (dunno if he gets paid more). Anyway the point to Paul was that levy is hardly mr charity to spurs. He gets paid more than most.
Agreed, you should have an estimated budget for a few years (not based on things like cl) that you know you will get and yes your stadium plans were made ages ago. Also agree you may not be able to still spend wages on the levels like the other top 6 (mims arsenal) but you could have definitely closed the gap if you had wanted to as all that CL money and extra PL cash was being funneled into the infrastructure side. We can argue whether this is better for the club long term but the fact of the matter is that this wise the priority and money was funneled from the playing squad to help fund the stadium, rather than their being an entirely separate budget for the stadium
If you're comparing him with Woodward, then he also does more than most. They're not in the same job. Woodward's hardly well thought of by Utd fans, either. His wages exceeded Levy's recently, too. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...ited/ed-woodward-salary-man-utd-b1783211.html
Also there's the small detail of Woodward leaving this summer Which he was always going to do anyway, but he performatively said it was because of the ESL so that it looked like Man Utd were Doing Something, which sufficiently duped enough people whose job it is to report this thing called "the news"
my point still stands you can spend and have just like us . After all you could have sold assets and chose not to . Part of the reason for our high wage bill is we have large performance bonuses in the contracts so recent years have seen bumper wages but yeah agree we do outspend you on wages hence my not mentioning it
