    TEAM NEWS

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is close to fitness after a groin muscle injury but he will not be risked against Aston Villa.

But fellow forward Mario Balotelli has overcome a back problem and midfielder Owen Hargreaves is in contention to make his league debut.

Villa's top scorer Gabriel Agbonlahor has recovered from a back complaint.

Midfielders Stephen Ireland and Barry Bannan and defender James Collins are also expected to be fit and available.

    MATCH PREVIEW

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish openly admitted from the Match of the Day sofa on Tuesday that he would have liked David Silva to have collected just a minor knock during his dazzling display for Spain against Scotland. As it was, the Premier League's Player of the Month for September took a breather early after scoring two goals, and looked plenty fit enough to play a key role for Manchester City this weekend.

The Spaniard wasn't the only City star in scoring form over the last week either. Edin Dzeko, Samir Nasri and even Vincent Kompany scored in Euro 2012 qualifying games, whilst the Toure brothers both bagged in the Ivory Coast's 2-1 win against Burundi.

All rather ominous for Villa's defenders as they prepare to face a team that has scored 23 times in seven Premier League games so far this season.

Balotelli got three of City's four against Villa in this fixture last season, joining Gabriel Agbonlahor as a hat-trick scorer in games between the clubs. I was at Villa Park to see Agbonlahor score a 'perfect' hat-trick in seven minutes against City in August 2008 - and in the post-match interview his shyness made him sound like someone who had lost a fiver and found a pound, rather than the star of the show! Four goals in his last six league games mean he's the leading Villan once again.
The history is with the home team. Villa have lost 10 of their last 11 matches away to City - and 15 of 19 since 1989. If they can preserve their unbeaten league record this season it will be an excellent result. If they can end City's, it will be incredible.

    MATCH FACTS

    Head-to-head

The Villans last won at City in April 2007 - a 2-0 victory from Martin O'Neill's men, with goals from John Carew and Shaun Maloney, putting Stuart Pearce's struggling team to the sword. City had won the previous five Premier League fixtures between them - the longest stretch of dominance between the clubs in their 112-year history of league meetings.
Villa's biggest victory at City was a 6-1 win in 1911, while City's biggest win at home against Villa was a 5-0 triumph in 1935.

    Manchester City

Roberto Mancini's City have now gone 30 league and cup matches without a goalless draw - and 53 matches since back-to-back losses.
Samir Nasri has provided six assists in his five Premier League matches for Manchester City. He failed to provide any assists in his last 25 league matches for Arsenal.
Belgian defender Vincent Kompany will be making his 100th start for Manchester City, while former Aston Villa midfielder James Milner could make his 50th City appearance.
Manchester City have yet to concede a Premier League goal at home this season.

    Aston Villa

Though Villa are unbeaten, they are yet to win away from home this season - and rank just 12th out of the Premier League's 20 teams for their away form.
Villa have had 27 shots on target this season - equal-fewest in the Premier League with Stoke.
Darren Bent has scored six Premier League goals in the city of Manchester since the start of the 2005-06 season - more goals by an away player at Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium combined than any other player in the division. He has scored three league goals at each of these stadiums, including twice in Tottenham's 2-1 victory at Manchester City in November 2008.

jack - guess you will cut some slack to super mario now..

like have said earlier - kid is a freakin genius.. he directed his anguish in proper way today.. Played the lone striker role to perfection...

James Milner is way underrated for all his efforts by you guys.. You lot see Nasris & Silvas as big - but James doesnt get enough credit, and he is consistent in all the games..

Hart, Milner, Barry, Johnson, Richards are your backbone and don't see any other team having this kind of English core..

Result as expected by most people, although I had predicted a draw (on AVillaFan), but there you go.

In only two Seasons (Arsenal, whenever it was) and Preston North End in 1888-1889 (22 matches), has a Level 1 Team gone through the League Season undefeated. I do not expect AVFC to join that club, but live in hope !
